UOF training in the Time of Cholera

First, apologies to Gabriel Garcia Marquez.

Just had a meeting at work on what we are going to do for the quarterly tactics and defensive tactics day.

Trying to minimize physical contact while still conducting required training. Strikes and ground escapes and weapons retention are probably out due to the contact involved.,

We may try to do some handcuffing and removal of subjects from vehicles using a weighted dummy. Figure we could wipe the dummy down with Clorox wipes in between iterations.

We did a basic tactics /structure clear refresher Last quarter and we’re planning to do the same thing but with force on force this quarter. The problem with force on force being having people share protective gear especially the force on force masks. May do the same thing with semi nations but shooting at “bob” strike torsos. That way Officer can just bring their own clear eye pro.

For those who still need to conduct firearms and use of force training how are you adapting modifying etc. to minimize contact?

My agency threw in the towel - no group training of any kind for the next 60 days. Of course, this is mandated by big DOD policy (or interpretation of same), so we don't have a whole lot of say in the matter...

We cancelled our SWAT training for this month, but that’s it so far. We’re doing Firearms later this month. At least that’s the plan. We will see what happens next month.

Everything but online training cancelled. No in service firearms training or qualifications, no FoF, no DT. Two basic academy classes (about 60 people) sent home till God knows when. Its crazy.

Last I saw ... defensive tactics training has been canceled. Firearms had been a "Go;" however, in the last day or so (before we went to a county-wide Shelter In Place) the next outdoor patrol rifle qual was canceled.

All trainings cancelled and we just shuttered our range until April 24th. It is used by a lot of agencies in the area so it should be interesting.

We wish to thank the United Network Command for Law and Enforcement, without whose assistance this program would not have been possible.

My agency canceled all training until the corona virus is under control. we have roll call out side, only limited number of officers allowed in the station, one officer at time allowed in break room etc etc
