Of course, any time a significant police presence shows up in lower income neighborhoods it's free entertainment so the ooh-ah squad shows and hovers at the edge of the crime scene for the Festival of The Flashing Lights.

Two ended up going to jail over the aftermath of the shooting as their drunken asses couldn't figure out they couldn't make threats to the crowd on the other side of the tape without consequences. Apparently they think nobody is going to jail for anything.
And then there was the era of the sap which instructed such bubba's, and that's what they are--irresponsible, addicted never-do-wells that a self respecting lifer would not associate with. He would have too much pride.

I volunteer to talk shit to citizens or non citizens who will not keep their fat asses at home. Would I be armed? No. But I would have a cattle prod, and I would prod their asses. Preachers who insist on hosting public services would be gifted a puppy dog shock collar. And so on. Want to bitch or sue? Fine. Go ahead.

Got involved in a pretty decent car chase of two robbery suspects in a stolen car a little while ago. They blew their engine on the interstate right about where my squad mates and I had a Stop Stick and, if needed, rifle ambush set up.

Figured a sea of cop cars would be the only ones on the road but it looked like a normal day. Plenty of "hey looks, cops with guns out...let's stop on the other side of the interstate in the middle of the fast lanes and watch" action. Pretty surprised there wasn't a huge pileup on the other side of the retaining wall while we handled business.

Two citizens followed the offenders, actually called in the correct tag while they tailed them, and after a good 100 mph plus chase.....two in custody with the victim's purse as well as a firearm recovered. Stolen car engine is toast but nobody hurt.

    Good times.

Brooklyn man arrested for allegedly hoarding masks, coughing on FBI agents

A Brooklyn man claiming to be infected with the coronavirus coughed on FBI agents who were investigating him for hoarding medical supplies, the US Attorney’s Office said Monday.

Baruch Feldheim, 43, is facing charges of assault and making false statements to the feds on Sunday outside his Borough Park home where he allegedly peddled and stored massive amounts of N95 respirator masks, federal officials said.

Feldheim is also accused of price-gouging. On March 18, he’s suspected of selling a New Jersey doctor about 1,000 of the masks for $12,000, a markup of roughly 700 percent, authorities said.
FBI agents then staked out his his house, first noticing empty boxes of N95 masks outside.

On Sunday, they said they witnessed “multiple instances” of people approach Feldheim’s residence and walked away with what appeared to be medical supplies.

The agents confronted Feldheim outside his house, keeping a safe social distance over coronavirus fears.

“When the agents were within four to five feet of him, Feldheim allegedly coughed in their direction without covering his mouth,” the US attorney’s release said. “At that point, Feldheim told the FBI agents that he had the Coronavirus,” the statement said.

Feldheim then allegedly lied to FBI agents regarding his possession and sale of medical supplies.

He falsely told the agents that he worked for a company that bought and sold PPEs and that he never took physical custody of the materials.

Following Feldheim’s arrest, the FBI Monday night raided a warehouse on Pennsylvania Avenue in the industrial section of Linden, N.J. that housed Feldhim’s suspected stash of 80,000 masks. a source said.

Mask-wearing agents and other workers placed the eight pallets of medical supplies into a box truck.

The arrest comes after President Trump claimed that some medical supplies were being swiped from New York City hospitals, which Mayor Bill de Blasio dismissed as insulting.

FWIW, we're taking a warn -> warn harder and stare disapprovingly while strongly suggesting they should comply -> arrest/cite approach to the closure violations here.

Add this to the list of things I didn't think I'd be doing with my career when I decided to go to law school.

Arrests for things other than domestic violence, DUI, and burglaries have dropped to approximately zero, which I presume is a result of police being less proactive in these times. Reports of child abuse are, as @HCM noted, now down to summer-like levels. It's going to be an interesting several months when things open back up again.
I'm wondering what sort of civil suits are going to come when this all dies down.

Can't drive into a state, but you can fly?

Can't worship, but I can stand in line at Costco?

    Price gouging?

    Interesting times.

That's interesting regarding the traffic. Traffic here is way, way, down.

My brother sends pics (of joy) of his driving in and out of Chicago every day.

Good work on the pursuit. Be safe.

Streets here are still about the same as any non-school day. Darn near everyone I spoke with at work today (about five folks) opined "this is all way overblown." Of course, none of them knew we had several dozen positive cases in town, including among the very healthy homeless population in town...

    I foresee that sentiment growing.

I just hope it doesn't reach the point of being dangerous. But if you look at Italy and China, the quasi-quarantine idea seems to be doing more damage than good right now. And those are in socialist/commie areas.
