I think it's a shame that the ETM mags don't take 47 baseplates. I want the benefits of the ETM bodies/followers/springs, but I can't warm up to the funky baseplates.

Wilson does offer this low profile ETM pad

I've had very good luck replacing the guts on CMC mags (both 8 and 10 rounders) with the Tripp Super 7 and Super 9 kits.

These were what Hilton Yam and others recommended for guts especially in the CMC Power Mag tube. Drops the capacity from 8 down to 7 while supplying increased feed and lock back reliability.
HCM linked Brownell's above. Here is the kit off Virgil Tripp's website.

Things may have changed now with stuff like the latest gen Wilson mags. But the Tripp kit is probably still a good way to go if you want to rebuild your old mags rather than buy new Wilsons.

Use them as range mags and drive on.
Mags are consumables and are simply not worth the time/talent/treasure of messing with them when you have 0 cost in them and/or new quality ones can be had under 35.00 all day long in 1911 and under 25 for OEM Glock and under 15 for Magpuls or various ilks.
Or take the money you were going to spend on the upgrades and buy a new mag...still using them as range mags.
PS Edited to add: if their function is glitchy...all the better to practice malfunction drills.

So I'm gonna respectfully disagree with Hilton here.
If the magazine's feed lips are OK and the follower isn't worn, I'm down to buy a spring. If the follower is trashed but the tube is OK, I might buy a Super 7 kit. Either of which are considerably cheaper than a new WC magazine.
Be advised however, the 8 round 47 D will burn through springs in a hurry and if coupled with poor extractor function, the follower design can death jam your gun (as indicated in the video).
What I'm saying is just buy a super 7 kit anyways. The WC 47 was meant to be a 7 round magazine. If you want 8 rounds, then go buy a new mag.
If I were a police officer, or responsible for maintaining a fleet of issued weapons, yeah I'd chuck them at the first sign of problems and consider them line items on a budget.
But I'm not one of those. Just a regular guy. I don't have a ton of money and my taste in 1911s is decidedly blue collar. I have a bunch of mags, some have lasted way longer than others.
I've re-sprung a ton of mags and I've deadlined others. (Mostly Wilson Combat mags whose feedlips were destroyed in the above described death jams)

I have had very good luck with the trip super 7 kit fixing problem mags. I put it in all the old 47D's, several 8 round CMC's, plus a couple of old 8 rounds removable base Metalforms, all of which had fallen into my practice/don't trust pile and it fixed every one of them....so far.
