Some variation of what's already been listed, but for international flights I add a travel toothbrush/toothpaste set from WalMart (about a dollar) and deodorant so I can freshen up before we land. Wet wipes are helpful in that regard too.

Not quite air travel gear per se, but related to longer business trips...
How many pairs of pants do you guys fly with? When I travel, I'm gone for a week or more and trying to pack a separate "outfit" per day is bulky. I'd like to get a week's trip into a carry-on so I can avoid dealing with baggage check. I'm not wearing suits, mainly slacks/khakis and button-down shirts.

    Stuff I bring:

    1) Macbook Air laptop, charger, Lightning cables, Apple Watch charger, battery to charge phone
    2) Two flashlights, one normal white and one UV (use the latter to check hotel for bed bugs, linen cleanliness, and other issues)
    3) Hand sanitizer, packets of ibuprofen and acetaminophen, small first aid kit (mostly Imodium, Benadryl, bandages, salves, wraps) that fits in quart-size baggie package
    4) Kindle Fire for reading (I do not discharge my phone battery reading on flight)
    5) One package of beef jerky
    6) Water bottle that is filled after I clear security
    7) Spare set of shoes in carry-on. I like to allow shoes one full day to dry after wearing.
    8) Three days of clothes
    9) Pair of slippers to wear in hotel room
    10) Bose headphones to allow sleeping
    11) Passport and/or state-issued Star ID (former is for international only)
    12) Passport card
    13) Global Entry card
    14) Eyeglass wipe cloths
    15) Grey and khaki Specialist AIWB belts (these work for most business meetings unless I need a suit and have no issues with metal detectors but also come off and go on quickly)
    16) Quart bag with toiletries.
    17) Two pens (for filling out forms)
    18) Travel credit card and one spare card
    19) Wristwatch (self-winding mechanical)
    20) Apple Watch
    21) Pocket dictionary (English-Spanish/Japanese/German) for international travel. Making an effort to speak the local language goes a long way.
    22) A few hundred dollars in various denominations
    23) Small pill bottle with my Rx meds
    24) Spare sets of eyeglasses

How I carry it (this is in flux)

    1) My personal item is a five-inch Zero Halliburton attache. It holds items 1 through 5. items 14, 17, 21, 23, and 24.
    2) Carry-on is a small roller bag and is moving to Tom Bihn Synik. How this goes may impact the use of the attache. Carry-on has luggage tag in case it gets checked or gate-checked. I do not like to check baggage but new planes and overcrowding sometimes make it necessary.
    3) Wallet is in left front pocket as opposed to normal left rear.
    4) Phone is in right front pocket.

I never understood passport wallets, personally. I keep my regular wallet in one pocket, passport in the other.

I have a pair of those! They're awesome boots, look really sharp with jeans or slacks and it's fun to get a shoe shine while waiting around at the airport.

I avoid having to make a list of the sort discussed here by avoiding air travel as much as humanly possible.

I've come despise everything about commercial aviation travel.

When travelling for work I take two Bluffworks suits, one in my carry on and one in my checked luggage.

If I only need to wear a suit on two non-sequential days, I just bring one suit. Like I said before, I generally like bringing things that have dual purpose. 2-3 pairs of pants will last me indefinitely, one pair which I'm wearing on the plane. If I'm bringing just one suit, I usually bring the DU/ER khakis and pack a pair of jeans. That's three pairs of pants I can mix/match with blazers or button downs depending on what's needed. If it's somewhere that I need to wear at least khakis everyday, then I replace the pair of jeans with a pair of Bluffworks khakis.

Bluffworks is amazing for travel, btw. Not only do they have zippered pockets (and lots of pockets), and are super soft and comfortable, but their suits do not wrinkle at all. They're constructed of some newer type of polyester that has been making inroads with clothing over the last couple years.....ain't your granddaddy's polyester. Since I've used them, I can pull them directly out of the suitcase and wear them and they look fine. Their sizing and fit is weird and can take an inordinate amount of tries to get right, though. Their khakis are made of a different material but I'm also a big fan.

Me too, but it is what it is. I think we that live where we do get used to be able to drive as many places as we can, and I do. But much farther than KCMO or MSP for a work trip and I pretty much gotta fly.

One thing I was going to add earlier that others have mentioned is some assurance of keeping a charge on the phone. I have been a little concerned about having enough charge to find a hotel in a destination city late at night in the dark. Also need to be mindful of various apps and such that might drain the thing faster than expected, I frequently just flat turn it off instead of airplane mode so I am not tempted to screw with it when I get bored. But if I take a car charger or supplemental batter I am comfortable using it for audiobooks and such.

I started carrying a travel size pack of Clorox wipes a few years ago. I'll wipe down the arm rests and tray table when I sit down. Also the toilet button, sink handle and door latch/push panel before I use the lav. Also wipe down the hotel room toilet and any public toilet I may need to use.

    And hand sanitizer.

I've never worried about germs until recently. Not sure whether I'm just getting old and crusty, or the general public is actually trending filthier.

If I catch something, I'll at least feel like I did what I could.

Are the Bluffworks suits really competitive with Suit Supply appearance-wise? Where would you draw the line and feel you would need to wear something “nicer” than Bluffworks?

Thanks! I bookmarked their site. I need to buy a pair or two of pants, so I'll be looking at them. Suit-wise, I seldom need one (Funerals being my most common need these days), but I'll keep them in mine for that too.

It sounds like I over-pack, which I knew, but I can probably scale back significantly. My goal is a carry-on bag for a week long trip.
