    WARNING-Over inclusive, long winded response

    Caveats:
    1. I do not travel internationally
    2. I never check critical gear (clothes needed if I am presenting/electronics etc)
    3. I make a list for every trip, factoring in: plane type, weather and activities.

Speaking for myself, I have testified in federal court numerous times while wearing a Bluffworks suit. It doesn’t look bad; I’d say that the most noticeable difference between it and a typical suit are that the shoulders don’t have padding, and the pants are not creased.

If the suit fits well, though, I think it looks good, even in an environment where most people are wearing typical suits.

This can’t be overstated. In my experience, the cheapest of suits properly fitted to the man is going to look better than the most expensive of suits that doesn’t fit right.

A suit that fits ( with a pocket square!), with an ironed shirt and shined shoes will take the wearer a very long way. Even if the suit is not 100% wool.

I routinely wear off the rack Macy's stuff and get compliments from everybody to include the defendant's family. My suits fit, my shirt is fresh from the cleaners and my shoes are shined for serious business.

    YMMV Greatly

Bluffworks is a working suit to me.

The SuitSupply traveler's line definitely fits nicer than Bluffworks, and looks good. I've worn them to weddings by choice. They're also fucking amazing in hot weather, because it's a wool mesh with no liner. When you hold the jacket up, you can actually see through the back....but when it's lying on your body, you can't. Anyways.....the breeze goes right through it. So I made an exception when I went to Central America last month and took the Suit Supply instead of Bluffworks. Ditto the SuitSupply traveler's shirts, which are on the verge of being too lightweight. Add a Mr Davis undershirt, and it's night and day difference from wearing a common cheap undershirt and standard department store type suits that trap sweat and excess heat.

The advantage of Bluffworks is its durability; partially due to the abrasion resistance (higher than SS Traveler's Cerruti wool), but also because it's stretchy and the seams never really get stressed (a trait shared by SS Traveler's Cerruti wool); another advantage being you can machine wash it, and then by far the wrinkle resistance being it's strong point over anything I've ever seen. It looks the same at the end of the day as it did in the beginning. Lastly, it has lots of pockets (some zippered), which make it good if you need more pockets than a typical suit. It fits kind of weird though, a little reminiscent of how a suit fits a GI Joe action figure. I'm guessing there's some limitations to how you can cut and stress the fabric compared to wool.

Put it this way...I'm in an assignment that is typically regarded as a Gucci group. Most of us are wearing higher end foot wear compared to the rest of the agency, and up until Bluffworks came on the scene everyone would buy their suits from two tailors in particular, one in Beijing and one in Bangkok. Bluffworks has taken the group "by storm", and it's now the single most popular suit we wear, though there's plenty of holdouts waiting for their "legacy" type suits to rip before they buy into Bluffworks. Recently we even turned a few of the guys from The Met's (Scotland Yard) Royalty and Specialist Protection Command on to the brand as well. We're trying to get them to expand to females, in particular LEOs who have a miserable time getting a "duty grade" suit compared to males, but the company seems to be unresponsive. Not sure if there's an anti-LE mentality or if they simply don't have the capacity to take on a niche project.

It's a working suit. I'd wear my SuitSupply traveler's suit to anything because of how good it looks; not so with the Bluffworks. There's a slight advantage to comfort with the Bluffworks due to its sheer softness, but the SuitSupply fits the human body better and is more comfortable in other ways due to its breathability and that it's cut better (for instance, higher armholes that allow more natural agility).

What size are you? Or for anyone else that matter. I have two size 46-Regular jackets I could send out to you guys to try on if it's near your size. I ended up wearing them for longer than allowed to exchange before I bought new jackets a size up in slim fit to fit me better.

Everything depends on what I’m up to; as we talked about in a separate thread I am nutty about traveling light, and so I only carry what I need for that run.

I’m at a four day trade show with a travel day in both ends, domestic, good weather, so it’s too weird to be instructive.

The next trip is more normal: m-t in Singapore, travel day, Tokyo, Kobe, home.

I will fly in jeans, a t shirt, and a zip hoodie. Passport in right front pocket, wallet and cash in left, AirPods (for phone talking) in hoodie pocket, phone in the other. Apple Watch and Ecco oxfords. I wear my dress belt.

I’ll use a rimowa hard sided 20” and carry a suit for Japan, a pair of trousers for Singapore, a short sleeve dress shirt, and a long sleeve dress shirt. It’s all brooks brothers.

3 undershirts, 4 socks, merrell vapor trails, running socks, shorts, and singlet. Bag of cables, ac adapter for notebook, very limited toiletries, extra casual T. Silicone band for my Apple Watch. If the case looks loose enough with all that I will pack the Eccos and wear the Merrells.

I will use a Saddleback ‘slim’ attaché. X1 Carbon, business cards, Rhodia Goalbook, pens and highlighter, Tylenol, tums, tissues, alcohol wipes, foreign money, bandana (used for eye mask in flight and bedhead cover when running). Kindle. Gum, lip balm, iPhone cable. Earplugs.

    That’s literally it.

I carry much of what was already listed, but I usually make sure to have in carry on or on body:

    - usb condom / usb data only cable. airport usb ports and airline seats with usb are suspect even though i'm using a current smartphone OS
    - battery block for phone when there is no free usb power. why land with a drained battery block? i often relax and do not use my phone, but sometimes work beckons.
    - travel power outlet adapter
    - sd card and flash drive(s) with live linux OS / personal data encrypted : copies of passport, credit cards, etc.
    - usual medical gear: TQ, combat gauze
    - passport and passport card even in CONUS
    - printed itinerary / hotels / consulate / maps
    - handheld flashlight
    - merino wool shirt, socks, underwear
    - tsa approved things to fuck with bad people that are ok in my landing zone

strongly considering a smoke hood. I guess more people die of smoke rather than crashes, but i would like to see recent data on this.

    obviously i love flying

Great thread. I used to travel a lot. Both for work within CONUS and internationally as a tourist or for family obligations. Nothing like a half-dozen 24 hour (one way with short layover in Japan or Korea) flights to Thailand to stress-test travel gear.

The "uniform" is polo shirt (chest pockets are a must for frequent access), comfortable shoes, stretchy cargo, hiking, or 511-like pants. Pants with big, sealable pockets are a must - I treat high-value items like wallet and passport like sidearms - never off-body and no opportunity for accidental loss or theft (nothing in back pockets). I always carry on a flashlight, a breathable rain jacket/windbreaker that compresses very small, first aid kit, breath mints or gum for pressure and because my airplane breath is horrendous, ear plugs, snack, moisturizer, hat, alcohol wipes and wet wipes, screen/glasses cloths, hand exerciser ,headphones and some electronic device with pre-downloaded Kindle books and Audible audio books. Audio books are important. I rarely read for fun anymore and it's real nice having someone read to you for hours without straining aging eyes. That's also my "noise cancellation" tactic, even when attention lapses from the material.
