My mom was in Japan on a hospital ship after the war.
When she started home she had two Japanese rifles.
On the way home she thought, "What am I going to do with these?"
And, shortly afterward, gave them away.

When I heard about it I said, "Mom! You could have given them to me!"
She explained that I wasn't even on her radar yet.

First guns I missed out on. Many others have followed, unfortunately.

She also had two heavy brass bowls. Those are on the bottom of the
Pacific Ocean. She chucked them overboard thinking they'd be too
heavy to drag all the way home on the train.

She's been gone, and missed, for many years now.
