    BAR Shows Up In Story

Working on a story earlier today and a Browning BAR showed up.

A bar had been taken over by some crooks and one of the locals went
home, got a BAR, and shot the place up. Crooks left town rather quickly
afterward. A mal future story, approaching sci fi, eh?

I've been to Northfield, MN and the Northfield Raid exhibit at the museum there
twice. May have been in the back of my mind as I started writing.

Also shot a BAR at The Pin Shoot in Central Lake last summer. Had shot the
Belgian, FN D full auto rifle derived from the BAR before but not a US
BAR. "Give me some old time rock & roll..."

The FN-D is a work of art. A glorious, heavy beast of mechanical art.
I had the opportunity to handle one but not fire it. Impractical as it is these days, few firearms have brought me such an immediate sense of quality, satisfaction, and confidence as that beast did. I can't imagine being able to pick one up without smiling.
