Good to see some news outlets and representatives talking about cutting some of the inevitable frivolous lawsuits off at the pass.

I find this very hard to believe given that a very small percentage of COVID seem to progress to the need for a ventilator or ICU. Does running a ventilator take an exorbitant amount of training?
ICU rooms/beds and invasive ventilators are generally the limiting factor not the nurses & doctors to run that equipment & rooms until/unless near top of tsunami wave of patients, shelter in place is trying to create speed bump to limit height of wave.

Places like NY are grabbing non specialist to help out because they are swamped.

But for the places where the flood isn't real deep yet keeping as few as possible nurses & doctors working at hospital helps slow the spread.

I rolled the dice and went to Costco yesterday. Called before going, the woman said there was no line at the door (3PM) so, I made the trip figuring I'd assess and decide. Had an event free shopping experience until the pharmacy section.

Me: <thinking> Something strange looking bout that woman with the mask waiting for the pharmacy employee. Give wide birth.

Woman <talking to pharmacy employee>: "I've been feeling badly for the past few days, now I feel nauseous and like I might faint"

    Me: Beat feet.

What was that moron thinking? Gee.. I've been feeling bad, I might have this virus, but, I'll go the Costco anyway. Maybe talk to the pharmacy.

    Criminal Stupidity.

At least they had paper towels.

So less than 24 hours after posting about my sister's situation, I had to private messages offering up PPE for her.

    You guys are awesome.

Just talked to kid sister the pulmonologist, middle sister the pharmacist, and mom the nurse, and they all said they have enough PPE for the foreseeable future and any extra should go to places that are being hit harder. Apparently there is some stuff trickling via the supply chain, some from donations, and lots of medical professionals in one part of the country sending FedEx packages to friends in others. I think all of my crew would like to have a closet full of masks for their own personal use, but they've decided they have "enough" and don't want to sit on more than they need.

I legit teared up when I saw the two messages in my in-box though. Because of people helping other people, we'll eventually be ok.
I was into 10mm Auto before it sold out and went mainstream, but these days I'm here for the revolver and epidemiology information.

For the doc types on here, what's the current guidance in terms of contagion after recovery? My mom tested positive, but is now over it and she's past the 7 days from first symptoms and 72 hours of no symptoms. She works for a doctor's office (likely where she got it) and they cleared her to come back this week.

She wants to see the kids and I'm probably just being paranoid but I'm not overly comfortable with that just yet.

    Per CDC:

People with COVID-19 who have stayed home (are home isolated) can stop home isolation under the following conditions:

If they will not have a test to determine if they are still contagious, they can leave home after these three things have happened:

They have had no fever for at least 72 hours (that is three full days of no fever without the use medicine that reduces fevers)
    AND
other symptoms have improved (for example, when their cough or shortness of breath have improved)
    AND
at least 7 days have passed since their symptoms first appeared

If they will be tested to determine if they are still contagious, they can leave home after these three things have happened:

They no longer have a fever (without the use medicine that reduces fevers)
    AND
other symptoms have improved (for example, when their cough or shortness of breath have improved)
    AND
They received two negative tests in a row, 24 hours apart. Their doctor will follow CDC guidelines.

Ok, she definitely meets the first criteria. She hasn't been retested but she's been over it with no fever or symptoms for almost a week now. It was hard enough getting tested around here so I doubt they are doing retests. It sounds like I'm just paranoid.

I'd read some stuff that made those guidelines sound more like guesstimates and that some early studies indicated that it could be present in the system for a while, but I don't know the first thing about medicine so probably best to leave speculating about foreign medical studies and whatnot to the pro's.

I listened to the O(hio)DH conference call this morning and the question came up. Here at least they are not testing and are using the 7 days/72 hour CDC guidance exclusively.

Our governor just extended our "Safer at Home" order until May 26.
