Bloomberg didn’t need to travel all the way to Minnesota to meet farmers. There are plenty of them in upstate New York.

You like it, because it's not New York because you, obviously, do not realize that New York is the center of the universe and the most important place on Earth. If you did, you'd realize why it is so important for everywhere to be like New York. You'd realize how great it is for trash to pile up on the sidewalk and traffic to be bumper-to-bumper 22 hours a day. How you need expensive rents, because at least you'll be near a million mediocre restaurants. You'll never want for a bagel, but a piece of greenery for your dog to piss on? Fogettaboutit. You don't understand that things like diners, milkshakes, high school football, are antiquated vestiges of a bygone era. You need only realize that the future is New York - your reality needs to be human feces on a sidewalk, trains you can't ride after dark, sexual assault and violent crime rates that shock and horrify.

I'm convinced the reason assholes want to bring New York City and San Francisco to other places in the country is because they want all of us to share in their fucking misery.

It also assumes knowledge that NYS is bigger than NYC. I grew up in upstate New York and quickly learned to specify "upstate New York" when asked where I was from, or face a nearly-default assumption/insult that I was from the city.

I'm not sure Bloomberg himself isn't among those who assume that they are synonymous.
