Something to keep tabs on. Putin has already made some pretty significant reforms in the last 5 years that solidified power under his direct span of control without checks/balance, and from what I understand this is him basically mirroring moves made by Erdogan in Turkey to further consolidate power.

Isn't it reasonable to say that Russia and China have both in fact evolved to Fascism, not Communism?

There is no much difference between Fascism and Communism. They are cousins. In both cases everything through and by the state.
Fascism is fine with corporations and wealth, as long as they know their place (and the big boss gets his cut). Putin’s handed out a few object lessons to the oligarchs.

They have the same roots. Mussolini was a member of the Socialist party of Italy and the editor of the Socialist Party newspaper Avanti! There are some differences of course. For example, nationalization of businesses in the Socialist economies vs government control of the business in the Fascist economies. The both ideologies reject the free market, however. Their totalitarian nature and methods are very similar.
