Social Studies publishers tailor texts to state politics

For instance, a board of California educators (appointed by Democrat Jerry Brown) convinced McGraw Hill to 1) add a note beside the bill of rights explaining that the Supreme Court has found gun control constitutional, 2) remove the word "massacre" when describing events in which white settlers were killed by Native Americans, 3) suggest suburban white flight was caused by racism and noting that some mortgages were unavailable to Blacks, 4) replace an excerpt on immigration written by a border patrol agent with one written by a Dominican immigrant, and 5) emphasize pollution & income inequality during the industrial revolution while promoting unions.

A similar board in Texas convinced the publisher to alter the same textbook by calling out Christianity's influence on the founding fathers, questioning the artistry of the Harlem Renaissance, and emphasizing free enterprise & hard work.

I guess that’s what the people in power have done since other people started writing history.

    Doesn’t make it right, though.

Shocking but not surprising. Just another reason to stay away from public schooling and look elsewhere.

The efforts to wedge creationism into science textbooks have been well established in TX for many years. Due to the influence TX's buying volume has had on textbooks, this meant most of the country ended up with textbooks heavily influenced by a small number of people in this state. This detail is just the libtards fighting back against the religious wackos.

    This is why we homeschool.

I'm of the opinion that public education is one of the places where the dysfunctions of our larger society first become evident.
I was into 10mm Auto before it sold out and went mainstream, but these days I'm here for the revolver and epidemiology information.

We homeschool as well for this and many other reasons.

I just watched a documentary on prohibition. It mentioned that the temperance league was approving and influencing school books back in the 1800s.

How would private school be different?
