Wife wants an old-school stiletto. Suggestions?

    Old school as in Renaissance.

I try to buy her weapons, not weapon-shaped objects. Which I suspect the majority of replicas are.

I feel your pain, Baldanders. I've been married to a Sicilian woman for 32 years. I sleep with one eye open and a lock on the cutlery drawer.

Don't have anything of value to share on the stiletto front, but it wouldn't hurt to do a search on bladeforums.com
(Pretty much everthing knife related under the sun is discussed there.)

I'd recommend a pair. Don't know what she'd do with just one.

Is she looking for something attractive for pride of ownership, something to carry, or some combination of both?

I would check out some stuff from Tod Cutler. It will be period correct and reasonably priced.

It’s out of stock now, but they have lots of different daggers.

Check out his YouTube channel here: https://m.youtube.com/user/todsstuff1

And we should get @Trooper224 in here, he probably knows a guy who has or can do what you want.

Are you talking hand made cost of a new pistol grade, or representative sample made from decent grade of steel in 3rd world country but usable quality?

There are a few makers of the second type that make functional grade stuff. This is one place to look. http://www.kultofathena.com/daggers.asp

I came into a parrying dagger by Windlass, http://kultofathena.com/product.asp?item=401726 it was reasonably priced and I like it. It seems to be reasonably well regarded as a piece in its type/price range, made similarly to the older pieces, hand forged, wavy finish in the light, and good enough I can appreciate it. I also dont own any handmade 1911s or expensively modified revolvers, basic factory versions work fine for me. Choose your poison.

I'll second the recommendation for Leo Todeschini (Tod). I have several daggers made by him. Leo does great work at very reasonable prices. His work is intentionally left with a few imperfections, in order to reflect their handmade nature as seen in the original specimens. They're also solid weapons. Some of the best stuff out there in terms of historic authenticity.

Arma Bohemia also makes pretty solid stuff. Here's some of their daggers: http://www.armabohemia.cz/Novestr/daggersA.htm

Not to put too fine a point on it, but what's your preferred price range?
