Surprisingly Speer has them in stock. Pricey but you’re probably not going to plink with them.

True, that’s not that bad considering that’s for what can be made into 100rnds, looking online, I’ve seen prices for 20-25rnds of loaded ammo with that bullet, for just as much. Looking at Speer’s load data, a max charge of power pistol can get one of these moving at 976 FPS..Not too shabby for a big slug like that.

If I had a .44 Special I’d probably load 240gr SWC Lyman 429421 bullets over Unique or 2400, old school:

Which is kind of what I use for medium target loads in my .44 Mag ammo. But I already have a mold for that bullet.
Mr. Taffin is a good read if just a bit dated.

The Gold Dots would be a great modern option for SD/HD ammo.

    But thats just me

    You got the 5" right?

I have a Simply Rugged sourdough pancake for my 4 5/8 blackhawk. It conceals well but its so high riding its not very easy to draw. The leather has also folded in a little which makes reholstering difficult as well.

I also have a kramer scabbard for the 4" redhawk i used to have. I think its a better alternative to the sourdough ime.

If you're looking for a hollow point that will expand at lower velocity it looks like 200gr xtps are rated down to 750 fps

IIRC, there are (2) variations of that GoldDot. One designed for lower velocities, and one for the higher .44mag loadings. Search in the Reloading section for a multi page thread from Tokarev. Lots of info there. I’ve settled on two basic loads. A 250gr Keith style SWC and 7.5gr Unique, and a 200gr RNFP (SNS coated) and 6.5gr Unique. I experimented a bit with 2400, but ended up with unburned flakes under the ejector star and subsequent issues with lockup. I did order up and test out the Blazer 200gr GoldDot loading as well. Accurate enough, good expansion using the “Yooper/Hillbilly water jug test”. Only issue was stiff extraction due to the aluminum cases. I don’t consider that a big issue for my intended uses however.
Working diligently to enlarge my group size.

The Speer load data I have, shows a 200gr Gold Dot part # 4427, I have a variety of powders that I’ve accumulated over the years, so I can experiment with a few, mostly I load Bullseye, I have a recently opened 8lb jug of it.. That’s probably what I’ll end up using the most.

Wow, that is a good price. I picked one up today for 568 shipped and thought that was a good deal. 3rd Gen Shooters Supply had Hornady 44 cal 180gr XTP's for $10 /box. I had to buy a gun to match the bullets.
