    Week 353: Five Second Standard

    Week 353: Five Second Standard

Results may be posted until February 3rd, 2020.

    Designed by: Pat McNamara
    Range: varies, see below
    Target: USPSA Metric
    Start Position: varies, see below
    Rounds Fired: varies

Set up the target and set the par time for five seconds. Gun starts loaded for all strings.

String 1: Start with gun at ready position of your choice. At the start signal, shoot two rounds to the lower A-zone of the USPSA Metric target.

String 2: Start with the gun holstered. At the start signal, draw and shoot two rounds to the lower A-zone of the USPSA Metric target.

String 3: Start with the gun holstered. At the start signal, draw with the strong hand only and shoot two rounds to the lower A-zone of the USPSA Metric target.

Shoot strings 1-3 at the 7 yard line. If you have all A-zone hits, repeat at the 10 yard line. If you have all A-zone hits, repeat at the 15 yard line. If you have all A-zone hits, repeat at the 25 yard line.

I guess by SGM McNamaras standard, I'm level two.

Did better with the G19 as I've been shooting it alot more over the last year, no surprise there.

Ran this strong side to maintain proficiency with that position. Got 20 years of carrying and shooting that way, still do 30-40% of the time.

Once again, I think I could've done better on the 15yd and beyond if I slowed down, but I tend to try to go too fast when I know there's a timer in play. Wyatt Earp would not be proud!

Gen519MOS w/ACRO and TLR7A mounted, in a Tenicor ARX LUX holster, concealed by fleece vest. Shot on Dept. indoor range. To add a touch, I shot the 7 yard strings with lights out, activating wml on presentation-just ‘cause I could...
I went to 15 yards with no misses, and stopped there to do the “Double Test”@20(shoulda kept it up...
Group a bit to left on target, but no misses; two low in “A”-felt/saw it when it happened.
Methinks this is a real trigger control drill(aren’t most, of not all, in some way?). I’m pleased I could call them.
Level 3; I will scrounge more ammo for later in week, and address my nemesis, the Double Test, again.
    Thanks for the drill.

P.S. On my “low light” string, got the light on from ready and two handed draw. On shooting hand draw with trigger finger activation, just flashed it, but finished with hits. A bit of dry practice with that procedure indicated...

Since I was on the dept. range first thing this AM, elected to shoot this as a “warmup” for the “Double Test”. It’s hump day here, and maybe that’s an issue. I don’t think Mr. MacNamara grades on a curve, so 3.25 isn’t a possibility. Level 3, scaring myself a bit with a edger just touching the left edge at 15 yards. 25 yards wasn’t pretty, about 50% hits, so that’s where there’s work to be done.
“Get over it”-good advice. Thinking positively, I wasn’t shooting this well decades earlier. So, the combination of Gen5 and optic is good for me-thankful I live in this day and age.
Side note: did the “low light” on 7 yard strings. Light activation good from ready and two handed draw; missed full on again with shooting hand only draw. Pretty sure I can fix this with dry fire...

Shot this one four different times, and actually had multiple guns at the range today. Was my warm up, more or less, and I think I suck after this one. That, or I just have horrendous time management. Regardless of misses, I shot them all out to 15 for the sake of curiosity.

All shot no concealment from a JMCK AIWB.
Guns used: M9, 92 compact, and PX4 compact
Shot on IDPA targets as I don't have any IPSC

PX4 compact - got frustrated at 10 yards with this one, not a gun I've shot nearly as much. Three misses at ten yards and I called it quits on it.
    7 yds
    2.57
    3.82
    3.43
    10 yds
    3.10 - dropped one
    4.01 - dropped one
    3.68 - dropped one

Observation - I've seen this before. For whatever reason, there's times when I actually shoot faster, and not uncommon to miss less, when forced to shoot strong hand only. Today was no different.

Attempted on Friday, January 10th, 2020, immediately following cold start with #350 2 in 2 walkback.

Equipment used: LTT 92 Compact, JMCK WC2.5, closed front Dickies shortsleeve work shirt.
    Furthest distance successfully completed: n/a
    Anything you noticed:

In hindsight, I have done almost nothing from the ready outside of classes and the occasional GSSF Indoor match.

Stage 1: one alpha one charlie, 1.59 (1.13+0.46). Charlie hit was a good sight picture but aligned too far left. Not enough grip tension on support hand.

Stage 2: two alpha, 2.71 (2.28+0.43). Clean, but I know I can manage better. Perhaps I was still dwelling on the previous string.

Stage 3: two alpha, 3.46 (2.56+0.90). Fell into previous stance form. I need to practice the revised singlehand forms as shown to me by Mr. Johnston and Mr. Herron, and see what works better for me.

Welcome to our overseas member-nice shooting!
G19MOS, concealed under fleece vest. 7 yard string shot “low light” on indoor range.
Only a Level2 today, shanked at 15 yards.
The dry fire for light activation worked; so now I will smooth out at 15 and 25 yards.
Good eval., as shots are coming in at under 5 seconds. I think one could “ignore”, so to speak the 5” time limit, and just work the trigger.
    Thanks for drill!

Gen5/19MOS, Tenicor ARX LUX, under a fleece vest.
Level 2, 10 yards. Outside of score zone@15, shooting hand only.
I shot this with a coworker, so passed on the “low light” today. My observation is, on this and other drills/evals, e.g. “Wizard”, I am underperforming single hand only. So I will address in dry fire, confirm with live fire.
