Me, too. I keep telling myself that I have a 4" 686 and if I want something a little nicer, maybe I ought to get a Match Champion instead of a gun that probably isn't as reliable as either.

    But, I still want one.

That's the thing isn't it? It has been advertised as being much more reliable than its predecessor which would have made the whole "OMG! New Colt Python!" entirely worthwhile. But with the early troubles, and then Covid, we don't get to know.

So I, like you, am looking at the Match Champion with more interest than I would otherwise had, but that snake gun just keeps taking a lot of room in my head.

The match champion is an eminently practical and useful .357 revolver. It ain't a work of industrial art. The Python is.

The Python is not bespoke, but just looking at one I owned might make me feel like it was.

@jetfire is teasing us and giving us hope.

If it survives your training/competition schedule I may be tempted

Also maybe this is for another thread in the funsmithing section but holy shit how did you get that S&W trigger so good?

Hopefully 2000 rounds doesn't do that

I imagine there is some danger in that. For example, I have a 696 that was sent to a writer so he could write a review on it. He liked it enough to keep it.

A fellow bass player that does occasional reviews has the same problem.
