Thread: Shooting Goggles?

    Shooting Goggles?

Anyone use goggle style glasses? I've never liked glasses because they always hurt my ears and I want something that I can use while mountain biking as well.

    For example

    https://warriorinc.com/products/bolle-combat-kit
    http://www.bobster.com/Crossfire
    https://hackettequipment.com/product...lasses-goggles

I just don't know whats a good brand.

The main issue with goggles is working around active ear pro muffs. That said, I have a pair of ESS goggles that I like for more robust eye pro duties:

ETA: the main thing I looked for was a lens that meets or exceeds Mil-Spec and ANSI impact resistance. I used to kniw what the numbers and specs meant; it’s been a few years. Regardless, I looked up the best ballistic protection standards and bought based on that. FWIW. Someone here is current on all that, I’m sure.

At a minimum, you want something ANSI Z87 rated. This is a standard for industrial safety glasses but is less stringent than the military standards. For ballistic eye pro the military standards are more relevant. The linked article explains why.

I would recommend something off the U.S. Army authorized protective eyewear list.

Maybe goggles isn't the right term? See how these https://warriorinc.com/products/bolle-combat-kit are, where you take off the arms and connect a strap instead what would that style be called?

Arms = glasses, strap = goggles. Some are convertible between the two.

One of the ranges I shoot at gets very windy and dusty. To the point of me tearing up so much that I couldn't drive home a couple times. I bought over-the-glasses Smith goggles to address that. After one stage I had sweat pouring in, moisture accumulating and overall misery happening so much so I've not used them before.
All I got out of that experience was a huge respect to our military guys and gals who have to wear those goggles in their line of duty.

The Wiley SG-1 kits can be handy, convertible tinted or clear, and as goggles or glasses. They were ok as either, but dedicated glasses or goggles work best. Lenses were a little small for me and the padding within killed a little peripheral vision. Good option for issuing flexible eyepro to a bunch of people, they can set up individual config to suit. I remember when they were given out like candy.

I am a firm believer in the above and what @Sidheshooter said. That is how I come to choose ESS. The obviously make goggles but that might be a little hot for me in the summer.

While not goggles, their crossbow series has a version called the Suppressors which are made specifically thin to where under eye pro. I *think* the regular Crossbow frames and Suppressor frames both have headband attachment points if you are worried about them falling off. I would look but don't currently have access to mine now. I'm sure you could Google. The band is included so I know one of them takes it.

Also there is another thread that started a couple weeks ago about similar options for a guy who gets headaches and needs thin temples on his eyepro.

Do you recall which model ? If it was the Outside The Wire Model they offer a version with built in fans for just this reason.

I have the “suppressor” glass as well; that thin temple/earpiece design is pure gold for range work.
