Just completed John Murphy's one day concealed fundamentals class and it was excellent. It starts with an in depth read ahead and video pre assault indicators. This was invaluable because the first rule to surviving a violent encounter is not to be involved in a violent encounter. At the range, there were 3 assistants with John and all 3 knew their stuff. Since there were only 12, it was a 4:1 ration which is excellent. We started with safety rules and the reasons everyone was taking the class. This enabled the instructor to add specific ideas to the lecture per the individuals needs.

The range portion started with an excellent medical briefing which included not only where the medical facility was located but the location of the keys to the transport vehicle, who drives and who administers first aid. I thought this was out standing.

The only two issues were shooter caused when , despite the safety briefing, one shooter handled his firearm without permission. This resulted in a firm rebuke but not a temper tantrum which I've seen in other classes. The shooter learned from the mistake and was able to successfully complete the class. The second case involved a shooter who was simply ill prepared equipment wise for the case. Once again, John stepped up and was able to put together enough equipment to help the student. People should always read and heed the equipment requirements for a successful day.

The shooting drills took place from 3 to 7 yards, the realistic distances for an armed encounter. John focused on both precision and some speed. Everyone was able to complete this portion. Some people required a little extra attention but quickly improved under John's instruction. Over all this was an excellent class and worthy of your time and money.
