Well, looks like the bimmer may be within reach after all.

Remains to be seen if she’s up for looking that showy.

She is trying to thread the needle of her not being the only lady at the tennis club showing up in a ten year old Ram 1500 and being just another Karen in a Tesla or bmw or Benz.

The pilot has been great and it’s her second one in 22 years but she’s adamant not another one. Probably could convince her of a non-luxury brand if it was new though.

I’m just assuming VW isn’t even worth talking about here, but she drove a rental… Tiguan maybe.., and liked it.

Wife had enough of the BMW. Car just didn't win us over. She went in a completely different direction that sent me on a hunt. Found what I was looking for on a lot in SC. New 23 Challenger Scat Pack T/A widebody in Plumb Crazy Purple. Comfy, Powerful and just cool! Only 1000 Scat packs made for 23 and educated guess is about 50 or less of this config made.

An Acura RDX or MDX might strike the balance of luxury/understated you guys are looking for. All of my customers that own one are happy with them.

If you want a recent production Euro SUV, a 6 cylinder BMW X5 is probably your best bet. If you want to buy a nice SUV and actually keep it for 10 years…hit the easy button and buy a previous generation Lexus RX350 or 450h. Feel free to PM with any questions. what do you think of the earlier year Porsche Cayenne? Sadly i'm late to that game, as their prices have been climbing as people discover they're surprisingly capable off-roaders with almost jeep-like mod-ability now.

I think a 955/957 is an awesome platform for a DEDICATED hobbyist. Well sorted examples drive great on the road, and as you said, are really capable off road even in stock form. If someone is willing to spend the money on tools and the time on research they’re really hard to beat. Big caveat number 1: if you have to pay someone like me to fix them and you don’t have a disposable income, steer clear. Caveat number 2: the V8s found in the S, GTS, and Turbo are prone to bore scoring. Some years are worse than others, some models are worse than others, but it’s fairly common across the board. If you just want to build a mild offroad/overland rig, or have a fun grocery getter, the VR6 will do just fine. I work on a lot of Cayennes, from early models to recent production, and I would say all things considered they are the best driving mid-size SUV made…there’s just a big cost that comes with that capability. Skip the Touareg/Q7 cousins - they’re not the same experience regardless of what the VW/Audi fanboys will tell you.

almost "done" with the storage rack in the trailer. pictures to come, but it's similar to this...

    when I'm done it'll hold 20x 17 gallon totes, and 12x 7 gallon.
