Not sure you've expressed the point. Anyone can overbuild the bridge so it's stronger than it needs to be. It's making it exactly as strong as it needs to be - and no stronger - that's difficult. Emphasizing the pursuit of lightness.

I believe it was, "Simplicate and add lightness." Thus emphasizing his opposition to the general trend of complicating things.

    Another favorite of mine:

And now, having spoken of the men born of the pilot's craft, I shall say something about the tool with which they work-the airplane. Have you looked at a modern airplane? Have you followed from year to year the evolution of its lines? Have you ever thought, not only about the airplane but about whatever man builds, that all of man's industrial efforts, all his computations and calculations, all the nights spent over working draughts and blueprints, invariably culminate in the production of a thing whose sole and guiding principle is the ultimate principle of simplicity?

It is as if there were a natural law which ordained that to achieve this end, to refine the curve of a piece of furniture, or a ship's keel, or the fuselage of an airplane, until gradually it partakes of the elementary purity of the curve of a human breast or shoulder, there must be the experimentation of several generations of craftsmen. In anything at all, perfection is finally attained not when there is no longer anything to add, but when there is no longer anything to take away, when a body has been stripped down to its nakedness.

    -Antoine de Saint-Exupery
The bolded part is usually quoted imperfectly and in isolation, but I like the whole passage. (The Swiss Army knife I carry has but a single blade.) Anyone who is interested in the interaction of man and machine, or the human condition generally, should read his book, Wind, Sand and Stars.

At least if they're anything like the ones VW/Audi use, they're cheap and relatively easy to deal with on your own. Passenger rear broke on my A4. Lo and behold, the internet had the answer - there's a company out there that sells replacement ones for a wide selection of cars for roughly $10. I think I spent more on the tiny 1/4" drive socket wrench I needed to put the part in than I did on the part itself.

I went and looked and bimmer regulators currently run from around $65 to one fiddy for the BMW part, based on a quick look at Pelican. I even went back to my online 8 year maintenance thread on my fancy pants German Car forum I was on for a...long while. Some scary pictures from the past.

And here I was grumbling about the cost for two O2 sensors for the Toyota...The whole 185 bucks it cost me...

Ah, I see. In Audi/VW applications, it's most commonly the plastic piece that holds onto the cable the motor moves up and down to raise and lower the window that most commonly breaks. That's what happened to mine. If you're referring to the motor or the whole assembly failing, yeah, that would be more expensive, and would suck a lot.

No. That's exactly what you need - the only shortcoming of that engine is the lack of a wiring harness and PCM but a same-year TSX wiring harness and PCM should be able to run that engine with some Hondata tweaking/tuning. Ideally you should find an MT PCM and harness but those are harder to find and the auto trans stuff is easy enough to cull out of the harness and tune out of the PCM.

I'm really pining to find an S13 fastback, RX7, or slicktop Z32 and swap one of those K motors in there, with one of those new Garrett G25-550 or G25-660 turbos hanging off of the side...

KMiata has a couple of PCM options, including a Hondata in a TSX/RSX PCM which they will provide for an extra 200 bucks...

And they have the Miata swap wiring harness meant for the north-south conversion.

Not that I have those tabs open in my browser window or anything...

I drove an $850 car my senior year of high school and then sold the wheels that came on it for $750. Old Italian stuff still puts a smile on my face.

Later, I found more of that style of wheel at a Pick Your Part. Extremely rare, as they were Italian (actual) magnesium (not just "mag") wheels on a 240Z. Bought all three for about $100 and sold them for a nice profit after I got tired of looking at them.

For some reason, I've done well with wheels. Kind of a wheel and tire nerd when you get down to it. I even sold a guy a $10,000 set of wheels and tires once.
