Bad ideas, brilliant execution
I may be slow, but I get there.
El Chapo is officially GONE.
dude came by today, with new plates, and took it away.
Spotted this Seven clone at a beach bar on New Years Day:

Dunno if this is the right thread or not but...
Wife is shopping new vehicle. Current is a 2015 Honda Pilot. We are probably looking to drop down a half-step in size due to her Mom's Taxi duties dropping off.
Parameters are nothing Korean, probably buying "used", Prefer around $45k and under 2 years old. "Luxury" brand will help make the sale. Something with some pep would make me happy. As would something we can keep for another ten years like my RAM 1500 and her Pilot that were both bought about the same time and are now being sold to partially finance the new ride for her. I'm thinking Benz and BMW might be too showy, and again not sure it's a 10 year vehicle? I don't think she'll go for the Macan.
Current frontrunner is the Volvo XC60. I'm hoping for a T8 for the getup and go.
I keep seeing the Land Rover Defender on various "best luxury SUV" lists. Is that legit? Didn't Land Rover used to just break all the time and then cost an arm and a leg to fix?
is all of this too much to hope for?

Mechanic here - 75% of my business is Euros, 25% is Japanese. I would RUN, don’t walk away from any late model Jaguar/Land Rover product. Nothing this side of exotics is less reliable and more expensive to keep on the road. Frankly, a PHEV Volvo would be pretty low on my list as well. If you want a recent production Euro SUV, a 6 cylinder BMW X5 is probably your best bet. If you want to buy a nice SUV and actually keep it for 10 years…hit the easy button and buy a previous generation Lexus RX350 or 450h. Feel free to PM with any questions. I help customers with these decisions everyday.
Let's go off on a tangent:
Why has no one made a hybrid passenger vehicle that uses a gas turbine in series with an electric drivetrain? I'm asking this question from near ignorance, but from what I understand about gas turbines, they haven't worked well in passenger vehicle prototypes because turbine efficiency declines dramatically with reduced power output. But gas turbines are often used in peaker power plants on the electric grid where they can constantly run at the optimal RPM. So instead of using a turbine in a vehicle where it's directly connected to the drivetrain and therefore has to change RPM with vehicle speed, why not use a small turbine that only runs at the optimal RPM to charge a battery bank, and then use the batteries to power electric motors connected to the drivetrain? It seems as though you'd have the best of both worlds. It would have an ICE vehicle's range, ability to refuel quickly, ability to refuel in places other than someplace connected to the power grid, and ability to easily store extra fuel in external storage and carry it in the vehicle. But it would also have the much higher efficiency of an electric vehicle because the turbine would only need to run at the optimal RPM to run a generator. Moreover, the turbine wouldn't have to run all the time, just when the battery charge got low enough. It would also have the performance (huge amounts of instant torque) of an electric vehicle. The battery wouldn't necessarily need to be as large as a purely electric vehicle either, so it could probably save some of the weight of an electric vehicle.
But AFAIK no one's done it, so either I'm a genius who's thought of something no one else has (highly doubtful) or there's downsides that I'm unaware of, or I'm misunderstanding something. I'm just curious if anyone knows what the downsides/issues are.
Thanks.
Idk that she’s going to go for the bimmer. A little too showy for her I think. Also the x5 is about the size as the current pilot so we might be looking at x3 territory. I’ll drop the hint and see what she thinks.
Potty about the Volvo. Seems just the right level of not too showy.
Not sure the Lexus is gonna get the ok. God that grille is hideous. Looks like the 450h ended in 2022. That’s stretching the vintage a bit. I know she would prefer a 2023 or later.
