    bought it today for $950.
had AAA deliver it to an undisclosed location.
It's not in pristine shape (needs a bath), tires are from 2019 and showing some checking, windshield is cracked the whole width, and both batteries (high and low voltage) are dead. 😄
    it's perfect for me!
just ordered a level 1+2 charger for it off amazon, so I can return it if it's all fubar.
just found some official fiat training docs on the HV system.
there's techniques for "recovering" the HV battery. some involve dropping the pack. others... I think there's a way to get it charged enough to let the on board system finish and re-balance the packs.

goal/budget is to be into it for $3k or less. that includes a new windshield and new tires. it's not even remotely close to the spec I really want, but if I can keep it in budget, I could drive it for a while and put it up for sale for like $6k and flip it pretty quick.

Not very bright but does lack ambition
That is just about my ideal for an electric - a small urban car that is easy to park. Hopefully the fixes are simple!

    4) Buy a new wheel and tire package from Tire Rack and have them shipped to the dealer and pay them to swap them, fly down and have a fun, worry free trip home. If I keep the thing I would do this anyway, and if we sell it I would skim my expense back from the proceeds. But the dealer may or may not be on board with this
Decided to cave for the tire/wheel package for Mom's car. No matter if I keep it or sell it it will need tires, and the old wheels were scraped and ugly so if I were to keep it around I would want wheels and if I sell it the curb appeal goes way up. This also gave me some flexibility and a little research turned up that the 17in wheels might not be optimal. The thing rides like a log wagon and that might not be just the run-flat tires, so I got some 16in wheels instead (an alternative factory size). And apparently they have a tendency to tweak the strut towers on potholes so a little more sidewall might be prudent, and I do not expect the fun factor to be diminished in my use case. Also my research indicates this later R53 version is a desirable variant and a nineteen year old example with 93k that has spent about 50-100 nights parked outside might be a hotter commodity (one wacky example went for $15k on BaT, though with some nice tweaks). Primary drawback with Mom's is the automatic, but the mapping is good and the paddles are prompt, and the valve body that is prone to be a problem was already replaced a couple years ago. Anyway, it needed tires and the wheels are probably a reasonable investment, even if the future status of the car is uncertain (she is really emotionally attached to me keeping it...).

Meanwhile the new truck is awesome, a few days after getting it I turned 66yo, and this FB post is getting some laughs

I saw a statistic that said the range of this style of car (sub 100 mile range) is 250% the average driving distance for most people's daily "hops." If you live in the (sub)urban area like I do, I don't doubt that for a second. 88 miles (rated. most people see just over 100 total range, during those times of the year when HVAC isn't needed) will get me to and almost from mom's, and the L1 charger would put enough electrons back in it at her place for the average amount of time I spend there, to get me home. That's kind of the farthest distance I need to go on a regular basis. Anything else, and it's almost always an overnight affair for 3 people, so the concept of "renting" something bigger when needed could be done, and quite easily.

That would get me to and (after recharging at their house) from my parents, and the local siblings, but only about halfway to or from the in-state in-laws.

Would be perfect for non-snow days getting either of us to and from work.

    exactly.
pre-'rona, when the wife was still commuting for work, I was looking get one of these for her.
66 miles was the round trip, plus at the time doing a pick up at TKD, which added another 12 miles. so a full charge would be knocking on empty. HOWEVER... she'd already talked with the building manager, and they were going to let her hook a Level 1 charger to the building. 8 hours of charge, would just about put back in the "tank" everything she used to get there.
