To be fair, a lot of gun owners do think that owning a gun = being safer. It ain’t necessarily so.

A lot of people think owning a BMW makes them look successful. It ain’t necessarily so either, and 300 odd people a week die driving cars in America.

If someone wants to spend $500+ on a gun and not train on the basics of self defense, that’s their right. It’s not smart, but neither is buying an M4 and taking it on a canyon drive without professional driving instruction.

Insofar as the “study” goes, there are issues with coincidental variables. One- what’s the domestic situation of the respondents? If your home life consists of marriage to a an active meth addict you’re at high risk of an incident-you don’t need a gun to be at risk in that domestic situation .

Two- some segmentation of private vs official use is necessary too. They’ve got respondents who might be armed security that carry a gun on duty but don’t carry at home. These folks have the same access as homeowners to firearms , but aren’t categorized as such if they don’t respond as owning a personal firearm.

This aint even biased data interpretation. It’s just lazy analytics , period.
