Thread: What classes are you taking in 2020?

I was signed up for Varg Freeborn's force on force class at Alliance in November, but had to cancel due to a family emergency. I'm hoping to sign up for that class again once he posts his 2020 schedule.

I always take Macroevolution in the Spring - 3+ hours a week, hanging with a member of the National Academy of Sciences talking evolutionary theory and study.

In terms of martial development: BJJ. In terms of general development I need a Wilderness First Aid refresher. Perhaps a few of us in the Chicagoland area can organize a trauma first aid type class. Maybe @Sherman A. House DDS might be willing to come by and teach us some stuff. @HeavyDuty @Guerrero @45dotACP @Chicagoland Peeps I’m forgetting to tag here -

My hope is also to get in ECQC or at least a refresher on EWO. Would love to get a shotgun or rifle class in, during 2020, but seems unlikely.

As a sidebar, I have come to learn that many (but not all) knife skills transfer to empty-hands, but the reverse is not necessarily true. A student might wish to ask the prospective teacher, "So what happens if you drop your knife?". My enthusiasm for the instruction would be much affected by the teacher's response.

To your original question, in my mind there seem to be two types of instructors generally available: the technical people, many of whom are civilian and whose focus is almost exclusively on surviving Problem One: the walk home. Then there are the conflict resolution guys, often .cop, who recognize Problem Two: surviving the court system. I hope to attend a couple of classes next year taken from the list below. There are three Problem One schools and two of Problem Two. They are offered below in random order.

    Technical:
    Gabe White Training (http://www.gabewhitetraining.com/)
    Tactical Performance Center (https://tacticalperformancecenter.com/)
    Pete Rensing (http://ussleagues.com/about/)

    Conflict Resolution:
    Tom Givens (https://rangemaster.com/)
    Darryl Bolke (http://www.hardwiredtacticalshooting.com/)

Hoping to host Cecil again, if it works out. That’ll probably be it for 2020, but you never know.

I've got these locked in but work / travel schedule probably not settled to schedule anything else. I had booked a course at the TPC in St George UT but had to cancel due to a work commit.

If I had no constraints, I probably would re-schedule the course in St George next fall, as I've heard so many good reports about training there, and I love the area (it is near Zion National Park, one of my favorite places on earth.)

@RevolverRob John Murphy might be coming to our neck of the woods again. I'd take his CC: ASAT class again in an instant.

Right now, Steve Fisher's RDS pistol in the spring, and hopefully John Murphy's Concealed Carry Advanced Skills and Tactics in the fall.

I would've loved to have enrolled in Tom Givens's instructor development course but he managed to schedule the local-ish one the weekend of my wedding.

Tom Givens Advanced Instructor course, and his NW Tac Con over at FAS. Considering another class with Craig Douglas depending on his schedule, and probably the FAS Level 4 Advanced Handgun class.
