Thread: Best first complete AR-15?

  1. #11
While Geissele hasn’t been in the complete rifle game for very long, their accessories (triggers, rails, charging handles, scope mounts, lower receiver parts, etc) are rock solid, known quantities that have been proven in LE and military testing and field use. Nothing in life is guaranteed, but it’s quite likely that Geissele put the same level of thought, testing, and quality control into their complete rifles as they did their accessories. There is a reason that Geissele products are so well regarded in the industry. If I was in the market for my first and only AR15 and had your budget, I’d also grab the Geissele Super Duty rifle mentioned earlier.

If you would prefer Sons of Liberty Gun Works, they’re offering two rifles during their Black Friday sales week for $800 and $900 but they don’t have all the luxuries of the Geissele: https://sonsoflibertygw.com/sale-items/

Yeah. If you want a general-purpose AR and don't have one, you'd be stupid to not jump on that Geissele. Fat kid, meet cake...

Pick up a half dozen or so M3 PMAGs from recent production and 1000 rounds of XM193 to train with, and you'll be all set.

Read some threads on optics, too.

Nobody said this wasn't a tar pit.

14.5" barrel with pinned muzzle device or 16" barrel with removable muzzle device?

    Answer: It depends.

Are you a guy who is not likely to modify his rifle? If so, the 14.5 would be fine.

If you may one day decided that you want a suppressor, or to swap muzzle brakes, then the 16" makes sense.

Personally I have run a 16" gun for many years and it has never been an issue, from working: getting in and out of cars, doing building searches, to hunting coyotes, deer, shooting steel plates, etc.

Keep in mind that a common ar15 may be illegal in VA within the next few months.

Hopefully this will not happen, but it's probably good for the OP to know before purchasing anything.

Lots of people here are buying items on the ban list as a FU to the soon to be overlords in VA.
My nephew was picking up items from a police supply store recently and there was a VSP trooper in uniform buying an AR. He stated that he was retiring soon and wanted it regardless.
I should pick up another AR as a FU to Northam and his minions.

Any thoughts on the value difference between the Super Duty currently on sale

    https://geissele.com/super-duty-rifle-16.html

    and the Super Duty LE?

    https://geissele.com/super-duty-le-16-black.html

I see the addition of an ambidextrous safety (good for us southpaws), an upgraded trigger and charging handle, and a different handguard and flash suppressor.
It seems like that might be well worth the extra $300.... somebody help me on assessing the value proposition here...

Bingo. Been wanting to dip my proverbial toe into the AR market. But with the recent political nonsense in VA, it accelerated the process greatly

I think that last week, the SDLE was the best value going for those eligible. That said, I found the SD to be a deal too good to pass up. After wrestling with Geissele's site Thursday night, I placed an order. I think the added features are well worth the additional price. I don't the the LE rifle is suddenly a bad deal though. That $300, and the features gained with it, certainly aren't valued the same by every prospective buyer.
