    Staking Glock Front Sight Screw

The Dawson front sight on my MOS Gen 5 19 keeps coming loose. I've tried degreasing the screw and applying red loctite, but it still came loose. Has anyone ever tried lightly staking the base of the screw up into the bottom of the slide? My concern is that the screw base may break off, but repeatedly tightening the screw is becoming quite annoying.

Is retapping the sight for a larger diameter screw an option? I’d be suspicious of the threaded hole in the sight if you’re having this many problems - I’ve never shot a Glock front sight screw loose in 25 years.

Also, maybe try an interference fit thread locker like VibraTite?

I bet Dawson would send you a replacement.
Likes pretty much everything in every caliber.

Clearly you never made the mistake of using blue loctite...

My front sight had come loose a couple years ago while qualifying with the sheriff's dept. I only had purple on hand at home and it has held (so far).
There's nothing civil about this war.

I had one fly off using blue loctite. Hot day, lots of ammo thru the gun. Switch to red, no problems since.

I used Rocksett which has been commonly used on muzzle device threads and gas block set screws.

Make sure the base of the sight isn't too thick and sticking out past the walls of the slide.. If it is, just file/sand some material off the bottom. Rocksette can withstand high temps, but you'll need a torch to remove it. Vibra-Tite VC3 is great on optic screws, but it softens above 165 degrees. Blue Loctite (242) is good to 300 degrees, Red (262/271) to 500, but I've been able to loosen red loctite secured screws heated above 400 for 5 minutes with a heat gun. Only time I lost a front sight was when I used blue loctite and didn't give it 24 hours to dry. Lost it on day two of a high round vehicle count class in the rain.
