    300BLK Gold Dots

Looks like Speer is expanding their Gold Dot line.

    150gr Soft Point: https://www.targetsportsusa.com/spee...0%20gold%20dot

Given how well GD’s perform in most other calibers I’m curious to see how these fare.

About fucking time. Curious as to why not a 110gr version.

I wondered the same. Given their reputation I’m giving them the benefit of the doubt. Hell if they come in stock this year I’ll send @DocGKR a box to test.

Don't get me wrong I'm not second guessing them because I don't know a fraction of what their experts do. I'm sure it will be solid preforming for sure. I'd love to see it tested proper though. I'm sure it would be very interesting.

I didn’t take it that way at all. Like you, I’ve noticed the preferred anti-personnel 300BLK seems to trend toward the lighter end of the spectrum. Most of the 147-150gr stuff I see is often grinder ammo.

The 150 grain has been available for several years now. Seems to work well.

The 210 gr may be interesting. The 150 gr is not a good weight for 300 blk. It is too heavy to get any velocity and too light to be interesting for subsonic. Maybe Speer has engineered some good terminal performance into it, but the external ballistics won’t be as good as the 110-125s.

I don't believe they did. Without resorting to a pistol style HP bullet with a large polymer tip as Barnes did the bullet will always be stuck in that 1900-2200 FPS threshold for minimum expansion. It's interesting that Speer went with a 125 grain Gold Dot bullet for the 7.62x39 which gives slightly better velocity than the 300 Blk.

Winchester began offering a 150gr “Deer” load a couple years ago. I haven’t seen any reports on how well it performs.

I have killed one large buck with a 125gr SST out of my 16” carbine and the damage was impressive. Based on what I’ve seen I’d be open to a 150gr Gold Dot loading if it’s near 2,000fps at the muzzle.

I went and looked at Speer’s website. They are advertising 1900 FPS. I didn’t find a test barrel length, although it says it’s optimized for barrels shorter than 16”.

Does the SST expand when fired at 300 blk velocities? I swear I saw tests where it performed like it was a FMJ.
