    Realizing that minutes mattered, Corporal Moer discharged his pistol at Carter from approximately 40 yards away to stop Carter’s violent assault on Ms. Butts. Corporal Moer’s shot hit Carter, thus briefly delaying the assault.
    A 40 yard pistol shot hitting the perp but not hostage?! Wow! Skill + Confidence...

    I got the briefing on this at TXDPS FTU several months ago. Great performance by what is clearly another one of our excellent, corn-fed Texas Troopers!

    After watching the video several times, I'm still amazed at Corporal Moer's staying on target while walking rapidly across uneven ground. Not many shooters could get 100% hits on a target that small, in constant motion - from a rest at that distance. I can't imagine being able to control everything - especially emotions, while seeing a pos stabbing someone in a sewing machine mode. It ended as it should. A true testament to fundamentals.

    They're still shooting at 50 yards at DPS.
