    Mooney aircraft out of business

    https://www.avweb.com/aviation-news/...es-furloughed/

Two weeks before Thanksgiving, Kerrville, Texas-based Mooney Aircraft has reportedly shut down and released its entire staff, the Kerrville Daily Times is reporting. The Times reported and we can confirm that Mooney’s voicemail system states that “At this time, all Mooney employees have been furloughed and therefore we cannot take your call.” We have been unable to reach any of Mooney’s staff or management, and we understand that the firm’s workforce was down to just 50 preceding the furlough.

This is very sad to hear since the M20J was the airplane I flew for my complex aircraft sign off. It had a sports car feel and handling compared to other aircraft in its class. It was a lot of fun to fly and was the highlight of my Commercial Rating.

It’s a shame that this happened as we approach the holiday season.

Dead is never dead for Mooney.
If we have to march off into the next world, let us walk there on the bodies of our enemies.

My dad's first airplane was a Mooney Mite. He absolutely loved that thing and racked up hours cheaply touring the midwest after getting his private pilot. He once landed gear up on a grass field. A bunch of guys came out and lifted the plane by the wings and he put the gear down. Got out of that mistake for just the cost of a wooden prop. It was apparently amazingly miserly on fuel.

    This.

It’s not the first time this has happened.

Not even hardly. Mooney's been bankrupt or closed or sold off at least half-a-dozen times, if not more.

At one point, a Mooney 231 was my dream aircraft.
Likes pretty much everything in every caliber.

Yeah, me, too. When I moved one time, a friend with a 231 flew me out to get my airplane. That 231 was a really sweet airplane.

Mooney 201 was my first retractable gear low wing aircraft to fly. Man it was hard to slow that sucker down and get it on the runway.

Mooney's not dead. At least, not yet.
