Fake news / spin / tin foil.

This is an example of someone taking a real event (a UN conference) and spinning it into something for the crowd that believed the U.S. military ‘s Jade Helm was a cover UN conspiracy to disarm Americans and turn abandoned Walmarts into concentration camps.

There are enough real threats to our liberty without this nonsense.

The UN, as a diplomatic entity, is protected under the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations of 1961.

Under such, when an entity travelling on a Diplomatic Note occupies certain spaces (such as hotel floors), that space can be granted the protections of the Vienna Convention as it is temporarily considered an annex of the Diplomatic Mission.

Let me be very clear: This is not an instance of the UN forcing its will and subjugating the USA, or whatever other sensational nonsense that any other retarded nitwit wants to drum up. The same exact protections applies when the US Secretary of State travels abroad, and the "working" floors in the hotel are protected by Marine Security Guards acting under the applicable US mission, and the US mission gets to decide who is allowed in that given space. For clarity's sake, a given property is always in the host nation....that space being used by the UN is still in the United States.....but it is to be treated as "inviolable" and not subject to search by the host nation.

In any case, it appears the space in question was private property, and nobody has any rights to film there regardless of who was occupying the space, diplomatic or not....so it's all pointless, uninformed, sensationalist drivel anyway.

As a I recall the UN has armed uniformed security guards at their NY HQ. As I recall they need to have NYC handgun licenses. Do they have any type of Peace Officer or Special Officer authority under NY law ?

Even if they don’t, they could always hire LEOSA eligible officers or potentially their security personnel who meet the requirement could be sworn in as special deputy US Marshals.

I don't think they do have any status under NY law as they're usually foreigners, but I guess I could be wrong. As a matter of routine practice and placating NYC, armed security travelling under diplomatic note are issued carry permits by NY but strictly speaking it is not necessary as they're being granted entry into the United States under diplomatic note. NYC has a well oiled system, but it was usually a problem when we would notify small local PDs in NJ, where every municipality has an 8-man police department is king of their own rice bowl and isn't used to dealing with foreigners carrying guns under diplomatic note.

Regardless, the way that security is usually run for off-prem events is that whole tiered layers of security. Security operating under diplomatic note will almost always defer to host nation security/LE as the primary party to intervene on something for everyone's protection and well-being, and anyone under note will usually be more concerned with intermediate and inner layers of security. No idea what happened here, seems like the "journalists" got in and were then being ejected/credentials revoked by the applicable diplomatic mission.

The hiring of armed local security, in particular retired cops, is extremely common. They can't be sworn in as SDUSMs though, as they're not acting as agents of a US government entity like the USMS Court Security Officers, DSS Uniformed Protection Officers, ect…..they're simply armed security hired on the open market.

I’m not talking about the foreigners who are on details for various UN Ambassadors etc.

I’m talking about the uniformed armed security at the UN building in NY. They are all US citizens and hold NYC pistol permits. I believe one of them is featured in the length video
So apparently they go on the road for UN events?
They used to qualify at the same munipal range we did when I worked n NY. There was an issue where they had acquired SMGs back in the 1970s or 80s under some type of special authority but had to give them up as what ever status they had did not extend to NFA items. I do recall they all had to have NYC pistol permits.

If they're AmCits that would surprise me, but I guess they could be targeting naturalized immigrants for hire. I never met a single one that spoke English as a first language, and some of them had pretty spotty English, and their academy is in Romania.
