Thread: Class tuition inflation

    Class tuition inflation

I saw on my IG feed that John McPhee had scheduled some courses in California, so I checked out his website. Saw one within about 2 hours from me with a reasonable $425 cost; but I was mistaken. The $425 was the 50% deposit for his 2 day class.

I'm not questioning the quality of the course, the bona fides of the Sgt Major or the free market, just recovering from a bit of sticker shock. The tuition for my 2 day courses with Vogel, Haught, Stoeger and Douglas all started with a 4.

To be fair, I believe he limits the class size substantially.

And also to be fair, it’s the free market. He can (and should) charge what the market will bear.

He’s got 123k followers on IG. Vogel has 3.5k. Guess who has a higher demand for classes?

But yeah, that’s a easy no for me at that price.

AFAIK McPhee is the only instructor that uses individual video diagnosis and the student is able to keep the video's for a training resource. Wish Mr McPhee nothing but success however the cost does give me pause

    Market forces, I presume.
Gold membership at pstg is 100 bucks a month, you can submit one video a week of any type of shooting you did, static, dynamic, match, practice, live, dry, and have two world class GMs break it down. Don't need to travel anywhere for that either. Had I decided to use video analysis, the choice would've been easy for me.

I got a lot out of his 1 day class, but I don't recall it being that pricey. I like the material, I like the presentation, I like the instructor. I don't think my personal budget would stretch quite that far, though that's not the same as saying it's not worth it. I'd hoped to do his carbine class at one point, but if that's the going rate for him these days I suppose I missed my window.

I think I paid $500 for a Givens 2 day course, and Langdon is $550. If McPhee comes to my neck of the woods I'll pay $850.

Try contacting McPhee, ask him directly if this was intended.

When you click through, I think you’ll find those are deposit prices.
