    Filtered Ear Plugs

    https://www.nonoise-earplugs.com/en/products/shoot/

This is what I've come up with. My goal is for a limited use with an extremely obnoxious gun, to be tamped down to "my ears didn't ring afterwards/I shot it indoors without losing hearing" without killing situation awareness. This means a mag or two, not an all-day range affair, which I double up with foam/muffs for.

Is there a better option? Will this leave me disappointed? Amazon seemed to give it some legit reviews, the only complaint being a few people "lost it in their ear" due to the short stem, which sucks, yes, but it's not like surgery was required, just a friend and some tweezers, and I am not sure how high functioning said people were, or not, but the product has been around since 2015 so likely they aren't being sued to death for it.

I did look at the Surefire Sonic Defenders, but they seemed pretty "meh" in comparison.

I have a Masters in Engineering in Acoustics, Speech and Signal Processing.

I have no clue what a “Precision-tuned Ceramic Sound Filter” is.

I suspicion these are decent, in ear canal devices with around 20 dB NRR.

In other words about as good as a $0.59 Howard Leight foam plug, properly inserted.

    Shrug.

They have a ton of "works as advertised" Amazon reviews. I do not know what or how or anything about "filter technology", but lots of people seem to agree that they perform as stated?

Get these. 2 pair for $7. I agree with RJ about the BS advertising of the other ones.

Thanks. I was hoping. I already have the Peltor equivalent of those, but was looking for "the better mousetrap".

Looks similar to the Surefires, without the flange. I’ve known a couple guys who tried the Surefires. Some say they can maybe sorta hear better, some say they can’t really tell. I wouldn’t know without trying it for myself. But nobody was convincing enough to make me rush out and buy my own.

I keep a 100-pack of foam plugs in my truck for work, which is usually all I use if I’m shooting outdoors by myself.

I have a set of these, which seem to be a similar filter. They work OK plus I carry them in my pocket everywhere I go.

If you want to be able to hear and not damage your ears, you need electronic muffs especially for an obnoxious gun.

I settled on ordering a smattering of products to try, to see which fit my ear best. I mainly wanted something to keep on the gun for hunting, etc. when it was raining so I didn't mess up my electronic stuff. I typically just use foamies when I shoot, but wanted a nicer option that won't have issues being used/re-used on several days hunt and stores easily, etc. Here is what I ordered to try:

They are only 100 miles or so from me, and so they should arrive relatively soon, Monday at the latest I'd think.

I have a set of these: https://www.earasers.net/ I got them based on a recommendation in an earlier thread on the subject. I got the ones for concerts, etc. and use them a lot for things like flights, hanging out at the track, etc. I think they're terrific. They're very comfortable, cleanable and I actually can hear although not as well as without them. I like them much better than the surefire ones. They make an industrial rated set as well. I got them on sale with a free case, IIRC.

I've tried the Surefires and I thought they sucked at actually keeping sound out. My current go to are Howard Light Max foamies. I love them because they are good at protecting ears and are very comfortable - but they aren't good at letting voices in as that is what they are designed for.

I know people that use an Otis Earshield for hunting.... It's supposed to use some sort of magic tech. I can't confirm though.

Looking forward to hearing about your testing.
