Thread: Where to get derp-free info?

    Where to get derp-free info?

    First, a quick word of appreciation for this forum. As I’ve tried to learn and improve at shooting and self-defense, this site has been especially helpful. The folks here are very good at self-policing poor advice, and promoting good practice.

    Trouble is, this is about the only place I’ve found that I can count on. Reddit, Instagram, and most major blogs perpetuate poor practices. People who don’t know better advocate bad stuff, and no one calls it out.

    Where else do folks go when they’re looking for high quality information? What blogs feature solid reviews; what forums foster quality discussion?

    Mr. Tom Givens publishes a monthly newsletter. Back issues are posted on his web site. I find them extremely useful and informative. Not to mention very well laid out:

    https://rangemaster.com/publications...er-newsletter/

    Mr. Claude Werner's Facebook group. The posts there and ensuing discussion were always worth a read.

    I like to listen to Mr. John Johnston of Ballistic Radio. His podcasts with Ms. Melody Lauer are generally interesting and relevant.

    Online, I follow Mr. Chris Baker, of luckygunner, from time to time. The videos are very well done, and information well-researched and presented in an understandable format.

    For sheer entertainment, I like to watch Hickock45's YouTube channel. The gentleman can shoot, and the camera work is great, since it features very good HD close up's of the guns. Although I don't think he's ever really panned a gun, and taking into account his hand sizes dwarf most people (certainly mine) I find his every day, down to earth thoughts interesting. Plus, he is easy to listen to, and does not take himself too seriously.

    @RJ has a good list; I endorse it (minus Hickock45. YMMV).

    I'll also add Greg Ellifritz's blog

    Also Civilian Carry Radio

    If you're not restricting it to online only, Massad Ayoob's books.

    There's precious little I ever disagree with @Mas on, and those things are such minutiae as to be irrelevant. He's a master of phrasing and presentation. Attending his classes is an excellent use of resources as well.
    Sorta around sometimes for some of your shitty mod needs.

    Though we've lost TLG, it remains a great resource, albeit static.

    This is @SouthNarc's forum. A long standing and excellent group.

    @Mas's blog

    @Tamara's blog

    Stuff from @jetfire and @TCinVA

    Then if you're on Instagram - there are a host of good folks out there, it can take a minute to sort wheat from chaff but if you follow folks you know are good, like Shivworks, Thunder Ranch, International Tactical Training Seminars (ITTS), etc. You'll get good recommendations.

    PS: I don't post a lot but if you follow me on IG it's @RevolverRob you can comb through my followed list and find a lot of good folks out there. You'll have to comb through car, motorcycle, and the occasional half-naked creampuff follow, but there is lots of gun and knife stuff in there.

    Mike Seeklander’s American Warrior Society. He has a Facebook and other Social Media Presence as well as probably my favorite gun/self defense oriented podcast. Much more software then hardware oriented though.

    And if your particular interests steer you towards Commie Guns then Rob Ski and the AK Operators Union is some of the best info out there brought to you with a heavy slathering of Slavic Sauce tempered with an American dose of muzzle awareness and safety!

    Quick note on Robski.

    He is a Ukrainian immigrant and he plays up the accent / Slavic Schtick but in real life he is a Sniper qualified career infantry NCO in the U.S. Army with overseas experince. He know his stuff don’t let the schtick fool you.
