Week 340: Defoor Pistol Test 2

Week 340: Defoor Pistol Test 2

Results may be posted until October 27th, 2019.

    Designed by: Kyle Defoor
    Range: 25 yards
    Target: USPSA Metric
Start Position: Concealed and holstered for all strings
    Rounds Fired: 6

Start with your handgun loaded and holstered, and par time set for 4 seconds. At the start signal, draw and shoot 2 rounds to the lower A-zone. Repeat twice, for a total of six rounds/three total strings. Add up your points on target. A = 5 points, C = 3 points, D= 0 points. Defoor does not specify the value of the head (upper A/B zone) in the video below where he explains the test, but lets call the head 0 points since it is obviously not what you are supposed to shoot in this test. You need 25 total points to pass.

Please report the following when you post your results in this thread:

442 from a Zulu Bravo Kydex aiwb under a t shirt

    Total points - 19

    FAIL

    1. 3.48 - 1c, 1 Mike
    2. 3.50 - 2a
    3. 3.03 - 2c

I ran this cold as the first drill of the day, as i wore the 442 to the range while working out the new aiwb rig. My first string was horrid - a bad grip that i thought i could work through led to a horrible c hit and a mike that may as well have been in different bays. The second string was a solid pair of A's and the final string a pair of low c's. I dig this as a snub drill, as i think it's doable, though it will obviously be a challenge for me.

Here's the 2 alpha string #2, you also see the awful first run. Excuse the corny commentary.

I recently put dawsons on this and hadn't zeroed them yet. This was cold after my 442 run. It hit behind the dot vs top edge, though may need a nudge to pull everything right, as most of the shooting later in the day was a bit left centric. I prefer top edge...whatever. I will run a few more drills that are accuracy oriented and confirm it needs moved before I do anything. Meh. Low left...classic tomfuckery.

I called 2 a on the first run but i don't feel comfortable calling it a 25 yard double, though you guys may correct me after looking at the pic. I can't for the life of me see where it went other than a mike though. Broke the 2nd shot high on the last string, didn't call it that high though.

I went overtime on the first run, a slight fumble with the cover garment - so I subracted the 5 for the a. The timer was in my back pocket and only picked up the last shot on the second run, it was certainly not a 3.43 first shot. As in prior runs, I had one solid run on the final - a sub 3/2 alpha. Now I just need to do it on all three runs. I got these grips because of opportunity and planned on holding them for a future 640. I love them as a belt gun option. While not passing, i'm happy with the progress of my snub efforts.

    Glock 19 from a PHLster Classic under a long-sleeved T-shirt. Four runs:

    1: 14
    2: 11
3 (untimed to work on sight picture and trigger control): 24
    4: 21 but in 4.04

What I noticed was the difficulty of being consistent on a big, blank target. I had started the session with Defoor’s Pistol Test 1 and scored 41 on the B-8 with 9.68 to spare.
