    “Wetproof” may just be heavily waxed. I have a Herter’s shell heater I inherited from my Grandfather. It is an electrically heated aluminum mandril that you slide the fired shell over and it forces the wax to the outside of the paper.

    I got to looking on the cartridge collector forum after I posted and it appears that Remington didn't go to plastic hulls until 1960. According to that site these date from sometime in the '50s. I also think they are paper, I just don't recall seeing any with the ribs running down the sides, hence my question. I got 8 full boxes of them I think.

    The wetproof shells are paper. Proof refers to treatment. Federal makes a super premium paper target shell.
