Here's my hypothesis:
People from all over the eastern US retire to Florida. That one (or two) of all their middle-aged kids who doesn't have anything more productive to do with their life follows mom and/or dad to "help" take care of them, while continuing to be substantially supported by them. Then they meet someone similarly situated and decide to join together in raising, or even breeding, new little humans who grow up, predictably enough, to also be Florida Man.
The generational financial structure creates the filter.
