This is one of the reasons I don't like the Shield. The backstrap is thin and sharp, leading to an ambiguous grip that is easy to push laterally unless you grip the fuck out of it. The single stack Glocks have a square backstrap that feels much larger.

    Speaking of grips...

I shot an XDE this weekend. Just 50 rounds.

The grip feels rather deep (frontstrap to backstrap) and very thin. The fore/aft depth makes it feel like a .45... which makes sense, since it also comes in .45 (I guess there's no difference in the frames). I got good pressure on the front/back strap, but not much on the sides. It grouped okay, but (not surprisingly) left of POA. It also pinched my finger--trigger breaks pretty far back.

I had no malfs/issues and I thought the trigger was pretty good (minus the pinch), both in SA and DA. SA had a nice clean break. The DA was predictable and reasonably smooth--I think it would be great with Ernest's trigger job. The decocker was very positive and easy to use. Felt like a solid, well-made product, overall.

Unfortunately, I'm just not sure the ergos work for me. Felt like my hand was stretched out across the front/back straps, without much lateral support. Kinda felt like the USP .45 compact I had briefly. And the trigger pinch isn't ideal. If they relieved the grip depth for the 9mm version, I think I could make it work. But that's just me. It's definitely a nice gun and I'd take the plunge if it fit me better. For someone with larger hands, I think it would work really well.

I only got to handle one in the gun store, but I am wondering if your findings is why to me it felt like the trigger reach was extra long. I thought maybe the trigger was just set out further, but maybe it is the length of the front and back strap.

Did you notice any weight difference compared to let's say a px4cc or p2000? So far my p2000 is hard to beat size and weight wise. Trigger isn't great, yet I shoot it well, I had to put the 45c mag release on, definitely more snappy then px4cc, but weight and slimness feels identical to me compared to my g19s

Yeah, the trigger reach registered as long to me as well. I do think it's because it's basically a .45 frame. I kinda remember the XDS having a similarly deep feel to it... same deal there: 9 and .45 in the same frame.

As far as weight, it didn't really stand out to me, either way. Subjectively, I'd say it felt lighter than my P239? But it didn't seem featherweight, I guess. As far as comparing to a doublestack polymer compact (like the PX4c)... I'd say it's proportional. I'd guess you'd save a few ounces going with the slimmer design, but not a ton.

I just picked up a used XDE for a song today to play around with, haven't even shot it. I definitely agree on the pinch issue, the trigger breaks so far back my finger bottoms out on the frame. If I keep it I might sand off some of the sharp edges around the mag release.

I'm noticing an issue with the frame mounted ambi decocker. When I decock the left lever with my thumb, the right lever hits my trigger finger. (see picture) Not enough to prevent decocking, but it adds resistance. I'm already thinking of grinding the right lever down or removing it entirely. This would also make the safety less likely to be knocked on accidentally.Name: 1567562849985_1.jpg

Hmm. Interesting. I had to break my grip anyway to reach the decocker... so, I didn't have any ambi lever/hand interference issues. And yeah, the trigger pinch sucks. Maybe they could work up a revised trigger that kept your finger off the frame? But I guess moving it any further forward would just further increase the reach.

It's essentially the size and weight of a P2000 with atrocious ergonomics. I'd like to see a DA/SA single(ish) stack as much as the next PF member, but with guns like the gadget'd G43x/48 & manual safety 365 out there, why the XDE?

I agree on the ergos. I really do not like the xd line at all. I checked out a used xde at my LGS yesterday and no thank you. I also agree with what someone said about the Shield. I think it is an excellent handgun, but the thin grip just does not work for me. Now, the P365 feels perfect. This has really been the missing key for me to go full DA/SA. I am not a big guy, 5'5" and 165lbs, sp carrying a full size handgun here in SE Texas is not always practical for me. There is just no options for small DA/SA guns. The CZ Rami BD worked pretty good when I had it. I may get another one and give it a go again. I miss that handgun in general anyways. It was fantastic!

I have posted this before, but I also know that people do not read everything. I know I don't!

ROBAR does not do NP3, Coating Technologies does NP3. ROBAR is the place where you can send your gun in and have it NP3. CTI will not turn a single screw on a gun for finish work.

We, Langdon Tactical, have been going direct to CTI for about two years to get NP3 put on our guns and projects.

CTI is not in jeopardy of going out of business and ROBAR going out of business does not affect our ability to do NP3 in any way.
