I bough a bottle of Rebel Yell because of the Billy Idol song.

After drinking it, I found that as cheap whiskeys go, I actually quite like it.

    Cheap? Yes.

Soulless? No, it's got redneck soul!

I remember hearing of Rebel Yell back in 1985 from a German colleague who happened to be very drunk on it at the time. Never had a chance to acquire a bottle myself till a few years ago (just for interest's sake).
Cheap, definitely not smooth, but "interesting" in its own way nonetheless.

As heretical as it may be, my cheap go-to is Jim Beam Vanilla. Rebel Yell is still classier than that.

One of my favorites for the money is Evan Williams Bottled In Bond (white label).

Rebel Yell isn't bad by any standards. It's a wheated bourbon and has a nice mellow flavor.
