    Federal 210g Hydra-Shok 45 ACP

This is a fairly new offering from Federal and since I'm a fan of JMB's original design parameters for the 45 ACP (200g @ 900 fps) I bought some to try. First two outings with it and the function, accuracy and POA/POI all seem good. This is through my daily carry, a G36 with a 4" Bar-Sto barrel.

Has anyone here seen any "ballistics" testing of this round? I'm seriously hoping it preforms better in testing that my previous carry load, the Hornady 200g XTP, which was quite a disappointment. The new Federal round is 10g heavier and supposedly a bit warmer at something like 925 fps or there about.

What did you dislike about the 200 XTP?
Being that I agree with the 1905 load and use the Hornady version.

The testing I've seen (granted not very much) seems to indicate the XTP bullet doesn't always expand. Their +P version may do better but I've heard a number of negative comments (even here on the PF) about Hornady's handgun ammo in general. I've always liked Federal's quality so when I heard about this load I thought I would give it a try.

Lucky Gunner did some tests with denim over gel, but with the 230s, not the 210s

They didn't expand very well, and had penetration of over 20"

The 185s also didn't expand very well, but fared better than the 230s

It's an older bullet design. In today's market I'm carrying HSTs in both 45ACP and 9mm. For reference here's the 230 HST same test with 14" of penetration

The 210gr Hydra-shock is the new Hydra-shot deep. Completely different design then the old ones tested by Lucky Gunner.
We could isolate Russia totally from the world and maybe they could apply for membership after 2000 years.

Yeah but Sanow and Marshall said the original 230 was an 89% one shot stopper.

    Kidding....

Well they did say it but it’s not necessarily a fact.

    I stick to HST when I carry a .45.

As far as Lucky Gunner tests, remember clear gel inhibits expansion and exaggerates penetration by 2-4 inches.

Stuff that looks awesome there with 13-16 inches penetration and good expansion might not be that ideal. FBI dings 12-14 inch penetration even though considered "acceptable."

The Deep rounds are moving in the right direction IMO.
