Come, mother, come! For terror is thy name, death is in thy breath, and every shaking step destroys a world for e'er. Thou 'time', the all-destroyer! Come, O mother, come!

Didn't even scratch the surface of things to see. Managed two:

Wrong boots for the day and couldn't get as close as I wanted once the snow, mud, and grade reached a certain point.

Didn't get a picture adequate to the trail. Solid lava rock, fissures running dozens of feet deep, collapsed lava tubes. And yet, life finds a way...

Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge

The wife is really set up for this with the fancy camera, telephoto lenses, etc. My phone just isn't up to a lot of the uber cool long distance shots at Apache but did my best with the phone:

    Fort Craig Historic Site, NM.

This is a view above a breastwork constructed during the Civil War just before the battle of Valverde. Remnants of the post commander's quarters are in the background:

Probably the most interesting sight of the day was spotted by my stepson. We were in what was likely the fort's dump judging by volume of broken glass, rusted out tin cans, and assorted metal scraps - when he eagle eye onto this:

Internet says it's a fragment of a beer bottle made by the Mississippi Glass Company and likely for Anheuser-Busch. MGCo started making bottles in 1873 but abandoned containers in 1884 to focus on plate glass. From what I'm reading the Maltese Cross indicates a bottle from earlier in the time span.
