Besides handling is there any difference with the 2 barrel profiles? Is the heavy barrel any my rugged in terms of high round counts or in general?

    No
The front 90% of the barrel is not where the stress is.

I've seen some pics of hb guns that were rebareled and the frame is slightly different where it meets the barrel. I wasn't sure if it was stronger at all.

    That's just for contour.
The weak place in a J or even K frame is the bottom of the receiver ring.
The current crop of sorta-K frames are beefed up.

Well, to give away a family secret, I buy up all the old production Millett front sights for Rugers. Orange is generally my favorite, but I'll buy any color. These are the best front sights ever! I'm down to two at the moment, 1 orange and 1 white. I'm predicting a upswing in my Ruger DA population, so I need to hit the auctions for more.

ETA- I'll be damned. I found and bought another orange front on ebay. I haven't seen one listed in ages!

I’d look hard at a 627. It’s 8 shots and already setup to take moon clips. I have a 325 Thunder Ranch which is also really cool but recoil is a little stiff when shooting fast and for high round counts.

What sort of purpose is "state compliance"?
If we have to march off into the next world, let us walk there on the bodies of our enemies.

It’s compliant with the arbitrary 10 round limit imposed by some states? Or it meets the drop tests and other silliness some states have?

    Compliant with State Militia Duty?

Really, I'd go with Glock for the Militia, but opinions vary...

You threw me there with “receiver ring”. That’s BA rifle lingo.

I think most of us know that area as the forcing cone or “butt of the barrel.”
