    Talk to me about 38-40..

Found a nice 1892 that’s not too ridiculous in price.

I’m on my third beer. Not much time left to save me.
Working diligently to enlarge my group size.

If you reload then go for it.

Is it an original Winchester 92 made back in the day?

I agree, if you are able to reload for it, it could be a lot of fun to shoot.

Original factory level loads in pistols about approximated 40 S&W 180 gr loads, in a carbine they bumped up some in velocity. You can safely improve on that in a 92 without getting too carried away.

Here is an older thread about my 38-40 journey, although it is with a pistol, not a rifle.

    https://pistol-forum.com/showthread....ifles-pistols&

Later in that thread is some useful info re. reloading for the 38-40. With a rifle, Trailboss powder may do better than it did with the pistol.

Well thankfully, I ran out of consciousness before I did anything rash. It’s still there though...along with a similar 32-20.

I just have a soft spot for old Winchesters. Unfortunately, so does everyone else.

I recommend anything you can find written by Mike Venturino about the .38-40.

So you did the right thing and bought two Winchesters, right?
