CRPA, with NRA’s support, challenged the ammunition background check law in court months ago. The lead plaintiff in the case is gold medal-winning Olympic shooter Kim Rhode....We had to wait for the ammo law to take effect to seek an injunction, but now that the law has gone into effect and the infringements have been documented, CRPA plans to seek an injunction in the Rhode case next week.

If you’ve had problems buying ammunition, and particularly if you are an ammunition sales vendor having problems, please email us at ammosnafu@michellawyers.com

What do you want to bet that there's be a thriving underground market for ammo that develops in Cali. It'll be another profit center for the cartels.

One of the things California has done is to stop the normal purchase of ammo and replaced it with reloading where California hasn't a clue who has ammo.
With liberty and justice for all...must be 18, void where prohibited, some restrictions may apply, not available in all states.

I fear it's simply incremental, or 'death by a 1000 cuts' approach. First is the gun registry. Next they pass a law that online sales must be transferred through a ammunition transferring agent, but then fail to give the transferring agents necessary paperwork and details on how to transfer ammo, effectively banning online sales. Now this, background checks for ammunition purchases. The last step seems easy to predict, which is ban manufacturing by unlicensed individuals and cap the amount of ammunition one person can possess. Easy to regulate, as they'll make you register your current stock and turn in anything above and beyond the legal amount. Moving forward, your guns are registered, your ammunition is registered, can't produce your own, and the legal possession limit is in place.

Primers are key. When primers get regulated - that is the bottleneck issue for reloaders. I have seen droughts in the past for primers and powders.

Benitez is a good guy. Pretty sure he's the same judge who ruled the mag ban unconstitutional and set in motion the great Magazine Lift.

Looks like this is the ruling. it's not final, just an injunction halting enforcement:

I like that Kim Rhode is the named plaintiff. Can't really do much better than a woman and one of America's greatest Olympians.

    Good news (for now)!

I’m sure Gavin and his AG will try to do with this what they did with the magazine ruling but for now it means I can get rid of the pile of .40 cal I have and it gives me a glimmer of hope Benitez will strike down the AW ban soon.

And his ruling is an awesome read as well.

For those of you who want to sit beside the fire sipping a fine (well decent) bourbon while reading an inspired treatise on the 2A:

I read every one of the 120 pages. That was fucking awesome.

Favorite line: "While there are no numerical limits on the quantity of ammunition one may buy today, Carnac the Magnificent might easily predict that in the not-to-distant future, this will be deemed a “loophole” that the State will endeavor to close."

    Best.

    Decision.
