I read, somewhere back in the depths of time, the Elmer Keith's original idea was for Smith to come out with a medium frame revolver (similar to what became the L frame) for the .41 magnum. Instead, they re-purposed the N frame, and magnumized the cartridge along with it.

The .41 magnum is probably my favorite pistol cartridge solely due to the accuracy of my personal .41 model 57.

I once put my .41 in the hands of a 15 year old kid who had never fired a handgun in his life (he was a rifle hunter) showed him a 50 yard gong, told him to align the sights and press the trigger and he drilled the thing with a single shot. This was with a 215gr bullet right around 1,000fps.

My dad's first police gun in a rural Wyoming department, when I was but a wee lad, was a Model 25. He has told me he liked it a lot, I think his was a 5 inch barrel.

I will show him your list of questions and see what his thoughts are.

Just a Hairy Special Snowflake supply clerk with no field experience, shooting an Asymetric carbine as a Try Hard. Snarky and easily butt hurt. Favorite animal is the Cape Buffalo....likely indicative of a personality disorder.

Yeah, that's what tipped me off to thinking that it wasn't '60s or '70s vintage.

Yes. Uniform trousers had a pocket for them along the outer seam, although a lot of guys carried them tucked in the waistband behind the duty belt buckle. By the mid-90s they were gone.
