Tikka T3x Tac A1 16" is only 35.8" and less than a half pound heavier than the MWS, if one wanted to get really close.

Here's an interesting development. Ruger has released an American Ranch in 6.5 Grendel:

I had an ER nurse in a class. I noticed she kept taking all head shots. Her response when asked why, "'I've seen too many people who have been shot in the chest putting up a fight in the ER." Point taken.

Oh man, it just got even more serious.

    A 16" .308 in a Magpul Hunter stock:

Like the prior Ruger offerings from the factory in the hunter stock, these have super thick barrels and the weight is too obnoxious for practical use.

I would much rather drop a standard Ruger American Predator into a hunter stock.

That second rifle looks really, really intriguing. Thanks for the tip!

everyone thinks they want to be a sniper, so all the manufacturers just keep rolling out heavy-barrel bullshit

The two offerings in the Magpul stock go 8.8 and 9 lbs, respectively. Maybe that will make the shooting a little more comfortable.

LOP on the Hunter only goes down to 13", and the Grendel offering is in the standard 13.75" stock. I'd really love to see more of these in the 12.5" compact stock, but then I'm a stubby dude.

I am glad that Ruger is putting out new models.

A muzzle break or a suppressor can also make shooting a lighter rifle more comfortable Without making it impractical.

8.8 and 9 pounds stripped - add optics, sling, suppressor, bipod etc and you have a 12 or 13 lb gun. Not practical for anything other than bench or belly shooting off a bipod. Not to mention that an 18 inch barrel in 6.5 Creedmoor might make sense in a lightweight hunting type rifle. That short a barrel in 65 Creedmoor in a quasi- Percision gun is just silly.

Ruger bringing out more models doesn’t benefit anyone if they are in configurations that make no sense other than to sell guns using spare parts Ruger has laying around.

Grendel in a compact stock would have my attention.

In the meanwhile I’ll continue looking for a Howa mini with youth stock.

Lightweight guns, add lightweight suppressors, all day shooting comfort ensues.
