Routine medical call ends in gun battle

Out of Wisconsin. Cops get called for an unresponsive man on the bus. Dude is revived with Narcan, walks off the bus and refuses to go to the hospital. He also refuses to let officers pat him down. After they start to insist, gun battle ensues. It also looks like the dude not only out draws the cops, but also has to rack a round in his gun first. At least two others were shot, one of those being a firefighter on scene to help that lost his life. The link start right at the shooting, there is about 26 min prior that is pretty boring. The weird part is the cops sound like they think he has a gun, which is why they keep insisting on checking him, but seem wholly unprepared for a gun battle or struggle.

So much to say on this but I deleted it down to this: Fucking Prick.
Good bunch of folks just trying to help you, and being very kind in the process.
And the prick pulls a piece and starts shooting.

One question though, how much do those nitrile gloves affect handgun shooting?

I don't really consider it that. He shot every round he had, hit multiple people, briefly used a female as a human shield, and tried to flee before he went down.

    But he was an asshole.

Thank the gods that the officers talked calmly to him and didn’t escalate the situation, someone could have gotten hurt.

Handcuff, search, then Narcan. The cuffs can come off later. At a minimum search before Narcan. They waited for you to get there, they can wait another minute. Most importantly if you take an incidental exposure, you can get their dose of Narcan first.

We've had several now that are on heroin/opiates and meth/pcp/crack, and when that reversal hit it's a million miles an hour in the other direction.

None of these turds are happy that the man is screwing with their high. Cuffs aren't magical but they help a lot.
Whether you think you can or you can't, you're probably right.

Back in the 70's, (the current heroin glee is not new whatsoever), Narcan was titrated to restore breathing, but not enough to restore consciousness. Everyone went for the ride to the ER, but they went peacefully. As you mentioned, everyone was fully tossed. "The Awakening" was delayed until they were on the ER gurney and fully strapped in.

I think it is time to proscribe the use of Narcan except for first responders and medical personnel or other incidental exposure.
