A coworker said his father was a Ford racing engineer that worked on the GT40 program. He was at Le Mans for the races, which must have cool. Not confirmed but he wasn't a major bullshitter... just a minor one... he was a pilot after all.
If you get the chance, watch the making of the movie Grand Prix (1966, James Garner). They used modified GT40s as camera cars and filmed after race weekends at F1 venues. Fantastic movie BTW. Its out on bluray.
True story - I want to build a Daytona Coupe kit car. That car blows my skirt up more than the GT40.

An acquaintance of mine and local Elk Grove racer Joey Hand was one of the winners of 24 hours of Le mans 2016 in the Ford GT which was the 50th anniversary from their original win which this movie is based off of.
He's back at it again this year
