I don't normally rock a murse (don't have that much stuff I need to carry daily). When I do use one, I have a Maxpedition Colossus Versipack. It's a bit large, but will carry everything I need to carry that doesn't rise to the level of daypack or backpack. I use it as my day-hiking bag, hunting possibles bag, camera bag (when I need other stuff as well), it even went with me on a trip to Disney years ago as a camera/misc-stuff murse (FWIW, I saw several other dads rocking a Maxpedition Versipack that week).
I'm getting ready to load mine up with lunch, fly fishing gear, and my camera for a short fly fishing jaunt this afternoon.

As a bicyclist, those straps would annoy me.
And the waxed canvas may transfer to your garments. I wore a Filson tin cloth jacket while riding around and had some wax transfer onto my shirt/messenger bag. I'm thinking it only happened because of the pressure of the bag on the jacket and the body heat I was producing.
Wasn't a big deal, and probably not something that be relevant for the average guy using it as a luggage bag, but something to know...
"Well you know, it's a toolbox. You put the tools in for the job." Sam
The Fishpond Lodgepole Satchel goes for the classic field sports shoulder bag, and pretty much hits the mark. Distinctly not tactical looking. I use mine variously for a camera bag, a quick go to the pond or stream, etc. Will hold (barely) a 13-inch laptop. Virtually no padding (I consider that a plus, because so many padded bags leave too little room for gear, or add excess weight).

I’ve been thinking about picking up one of these. Might be worth a look.

Take a look at the Tom Bihn Synapse 25.
Propaganda blurb from their website: "The Synapse 25 is a carefully calculated, supremely organized backpack, designed for day hiking, everyday carry, and ultralight travel. Its graceful, curvilinear exterior may on first blush look like something akin to sculpture, but in truth it is simply the judicious realization of ultimate utility. No mesh pockets clutter the exterior of this bag, nor extraneous straps festoon it; in it, you'll be able to carry more than you would imagine, and no one will be the wiser."
It is a bag I've wanted for a while and someday I'll own one.

Because of severe disability I've been using a man-purse for years and hating it all the while. I'm on my second Maxpedition GTG (good to go) bag, which they have now discontinued. While it does what I need I dislike the tactical look. I haven't been "tactical" for a good many years (LOL).
I too like the looks of the Indy Satchel. It doesn't scream "I've got a gun!" which I've always suspected the Maxpedition of doing. I may crawl out from under my rock and buy one of those.

These come up every so often in non tactical colors
