    I need a new murse! RFI

    I work 24 hour shifts as a firefighter and I EDC a 14 inch tool bag from Lowes to get my stuff* to and from work. I carry it by the handles, while it does have a shoulder strap the bag is wide and makes shoulder carry awkward. I have a hour commute and don't wear my pistol to work but since tomorrow is always a day off, I normally don't go straight home so I end up carrying from work. I tried the Sitka Gearslinger from Maxpedition and its too big for my needs. My son clamed it so I will get to see how it holds up.

    I don't need a lot of capacity but organization is a must and it needs to have a more positive shoulder carry. Because I work 24s I need to be able to stow my pistol in the bag, which will be secured in my locker. Policy states no weapons on city property and it gets violated multiple times daily but I still want to be discrete as possible.(I have worked on the chief's 1911 on the kitchen table at the station, so its not like we are trying to hide anything). I don't have a problem spending the dough for quality gear but I don't want to end up spending a months wages on stuff that don't work. I don't know what I don't know about sling bags and shoulder bags and don't know what I would like. Here are my considerations so far;

    From Maxpedition, I would most likely order basic black since they have dropped a lot of colors. I have an aversion to kaki, desert tan, coyote. I could do a green but...
    Jumbo Versipack, https://www.maxpedition.com/products...12191268044871

    From the Gearslinger line,
    Lunada, https://www.maxpedition.com/products/lunada-gearslinger Remora, https://www.maxpedition.com/products...nt=39636969617
    Noatak, https://www.maxpedition.com/products/noatak-gearslinger

    Here is a couple of knock offs;

    Tru-Spec Trek sling pack, https://tacticalgear.com/tru-spec-tr...#/22842/4442/1
    Condor EDC bag, https://tacticalgear.com/condor-edc-...k#/22510/848/1
    I could get both for the price of one Maxpedition product and once I figure out which style I could upgrade to the better product. If Maxpedition is better.

    I will look at any other suggestion yall might have, too.
    Thanks, fes

    I religiously avoid all things “tactical”. Aside from the potential flagging aspect of it, I am high drag low speed.

    This https://www.amazon.com/Case-Logic-15...SIN=B005QXX0MG has worked for all of my needs.

    I do not carry as much as your list so something within the same genre might work for you.

    Vertx has recently done a revamp of most of their bag line. After a couple of years of avoiding the Gamut, I recently bought a Gamut expedition pack because Vertx seemed to be reading my mind with the upgrade, and addressed every single concern I had, as well as issues that my gun totin' friends brought up. The Gamut is probably too big for your needs, but there are several other smaller packs and bags available from them. One major issue I had was the location of the Vertx logo on the pack. In the gun community the name "Vertx" shouts "gun inside". The Vertx logo has been moved to the inside of the bag, and is not seen on the outside at all. I also dislike all the camo based tans, and greens, and grays for these packs. My new Gamut is blue with gray trim. I think the Maxpedition Entity packs and bags are really nice, but their look is very distinctive, and I'd almost prefer one of their older designs with all the molle all over them.

    It’s kind of salty, but the RE Factor Tactical ASO is a great bag for a bunch of stuff, while keeping your pistol readily accessible. Comes in several colors, including Navy.

    I forgo a vehicle whenever I can, which means I'm on my bike a lot and I carry my gear in a messenger bag. If I'm carrying heavy loads or a lot of bulk I use a:

    Chrome Citizen bag (this is also my go-to if it's raining)

    For the basics (bike lock, water, tire repair kit and gym clothes, or a small package for the post office, or the like) I use the Jack Bauer bag. I compartmentalize using outdoor research mesh zipper pouch (I don't think they make them anymore). If buying new, I'd use Magpul Daka pouches (or an REI equivalent). I leave mine sterile, but you could put hipster patches on it.

    Depending on your AO you may get more attention carrying a Chrome bag and no bike (or a brain bucket) but if you have to go gray, buy a cheap helmet and clip it to the bag. Bonus points if you wear 3/4 shorts and a drug rug.

    "No one ever sees you coming, do they, Bob?"

    EDIT: I've used the jack bauer bag as range bag. All the weight makes long distance carry uncomfortable, but from the car to the firing line works fine. Glocks and 1911's fit fine (with room to spare) in the two pockets in the front.

    I have been using this:
    https://www.aerostich.com/bags/shoul...urier-bag.html

    I also motorcycle and enjoy their gear, so it was a natural. I have a larger one that works for a laptop.

    No gun features, but since it isn't a gun bag it doesn't look like a gun bag. I have become less and less comfortable leaving stuff in hotel rooms, and I can put my pistol and wallet and car keys and phone in here when I waddle down for coffee wearing elastic shorts. A few years ago we took an Amtrak trip (those rooms are unsecured) and my wife used it as her purse, and either of us could carry it without looking out of place.

    Currently I use the chrome messenger bag, but I’ve been thinking about getting the Vertx EDC Sling bag as a replacement. I’d much prefer to go low-profile with a bag, whether it’s in public, sitting in my car, or around guys at work. Use a low-pro bag that doesn’t scream “gun inside” just makes more sense.

    The chrome is a great transporting bag, but won’t allow for fast access of a weapon, which the Vertx excels at.
