    The newly adopted AK-12 doesn't incorporate the balanced recoil action, but the other winner of the military trials, the A-545 (a modernized AEK-971) does. The AEK-971 was not a Kalashnikov design. Interestingly the AEK-971 had lost the 1990s era Project Abakan trials to the overly complex Nikonov AN-94. Supposedly Kalashnikov's AK-12 will be widely issued, whereas the A-545 (and A-762) will be available to special troops.

    Vickers seemed surprised with how well it performed.
