    It might get someone in trouble with their department with a duty gun, but I doubt it would come into play in the aftermath of a shooting unless the gun was stored and stolen and someone got shot with it because the lock was engaged.

    The problem with the lock accidentally getting engaged while the gun if firing is a known issue with alloy S&W revolvers. So it is reasonable for someone to remove it on a revolver that someone might have to rely on for defensive purposes.
